Was looking at dollymount beach on google maps and clicked on satellite image and there is a message written on the beach . Its says "cynthia, will you marry me?". Havent heard it mentioned before, wondering does anyone know if she said yes or what was story behind it.

Someone near my house oainted "Please forgive me" on the road and then a girls name on a sign on the same road.

Can these people not say things to the person's face?

From the pic it looks like he wrote "will u..."

He's not old enough to get married!

Hold on one ickly, trickly second. What the diddily is that anomoly?

wonder if I chase google earth photographers will I be forever entombed in the interweb?

    I find this oddly cute.

It also would be a cruel but effective practical joke, if the was written by someone other than cynthia's bf, before he walked with her right there.

Or a sit-com situation where a couple randomly encounter it where the woman is named Cynthia.

However I like the simple interpretation best.

Fake? How's he supposed to know what time the satelitte is going over?

These aren't geo-stationary satelittes they rotate aroun the earth AFAIK.

Who says he intended it for the satellite? His girlfriend could have been flying into Dublin Airport and he wanted her to see it.

always have been harping on about wings for ages. can't see what else they'd be needed for other than helping women to fly.

Bloody hell I know. Everyone is aware that Dublin Airport is only for planes. She is hardly going to fly in there is she?

Seeing as Ray's production team is too lazy to research their own stories they can go swivel.

Should it not be a source of pride that Boards finds these stories first?

Who cares if someone else runs with them?

But sure then he would have to make her look out the window of the plane in order to see it - hardly a huge surprise there, now is it?

Maybe he was drunk when he wrote it and he believed that she was 20 feet tall and would be able to see it while walking on the beach.

Is there not a couple of people standing beside it in the picture?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Murt_

They were just on about it again on the Ray D'Arcy show there now. Turns out some the chap organized by renting a helicopter and the helicopter company arranged with Dublin City Council to have the sign placed there. They then flew the couple over the sign.
The couple were not aware that it was on Google Maps until it came up on the Ray D'Arcy show.

In fairness to Ray & team, they got an email from a listener asking about it. They just had her on air too.
