Looks like a very nice car.

If you buy it, best of luck with it.

So went to view this car this morning, was happy with the overall look of the car and is was quite clean. I was giving the keys (3 of them :)) to start it up and he left me to look over it. I spent about 5 minutes looking around it and was happy to make a deal on it.

So went into the office to have a chat about it, I asked what warranty was on it and he said 3 months, I said ok so just the standard warranty, he said yes, so I said I'd need at least a 6 month warranty, he said "There's not a chance I'd give a 6 month warranty, it's just recently passed the NTC first time and that 3 months warranty would be all he will give". So I taught ohhh, I was put off by his comment but more by the fact he wouldn't give a 6 month warranty. So I told him I'd go away and have a think about it, we didn't discuss price as I was put off over the warranty :/

I like the car, but am I being unreasonable in expecting a 6 month warranty? I don't think so, but I'm contemplating going for it with a 3 month warranty. I'll obviously get someone to check over it before I had over the cash.

    What do ye think?

If you're otherwise happy with the car, I'd approach the salesman again and ask for the 6 month warranty as a dealbreaker, otherwise walk away. If his exact words were
"There's not a chance I'd give a 6 month warranty, it's just recently passed the NTC first time and that 3 months warranty would be all he will give"
and he wasn't budging, I'd definitely walk. 6 months shouldn't be a big deal at all if they have any sort of confidence in their cars.

My instinct would be that, if a dealer had full confidence in a car, and it had very recently passed an independent roadworthiness inspection, they should have no issue extending the warranty as an element of negotiation.

I'm not referring to this car in particular, more the principle of it.

If it just passed the NCT and all is good i would have thought standing over it for 6 months for the sake of a sale would be fine. If he has an attitude now,I wonder what he will be like if something goes wrong !!!

    I would walk

Has he got your contact details OP? If so,I'd leave him stew for a few days and see how hungry he gets..
Like Absurdum says, 6 months shouldn't be a hassle if he just NCT'd it...

It's a 2.2 litre petrol which wont be all that easy to shift these days too, so I agree with the suggestions to tell him without the 6 month warranty your walking away and to let him know to contact you if he changes his mind.
