Hi, Just after a bit of help please. I lost my car key a few months ago and today my only car key broke. Its for a 2005 mitsubishi lancer - so its a key with an immobiliser on it. Can anyone let me know where is a good and not too expensive place in dublin to get my keys fixed (will need a new case) and another key made. Thanks a million

just got a quote from a company based in UK thru Ebay - £55 to get a new key made and coded. £12 to get a new case for my key that broke. Seems like a fairly good deal.

Also if anyone knows if its cheaper to get a second car key when you still have one? i.e. only lost the spare?

Don't know about this company but when my car keys were stolen at the gym last year, I could only get a replacement from a BMW dealer and had to provide VRC, Passport, etc.

Cost €64 iirc (No chip tho - looking at 200 upwards for chipped keys:()

got replacement key made in expert hardware shop in Ballyfermot - Brogans. it cost 40 euro. they took the inside (immobiliser) out of my broken key and put it in a new key casing. i don't know did they have to code it then but it works grand so happy days. ileft it one the guy and came back after 20 mins and it was good to go. the guy who was very helpful said that mitsubishi and toyota keys seem to be the ones that break most often. he also said there is some other service they offer to do with keys as well but that cost 75 euros.
    Hope this helps.

That's very good value in fairness.

The Cobbler near me in Douglas charges you over €10 just to copy a normal house key.

    It is good value.

There was a thread on here where the guy was going in to eat the head off a locksmith as his mother was charged all of €50 for a new key. He only came onto boards to see how much she was scammed by.
