my son is trying to setup multiplyer but seems to be having problems is there anyone who would be able to help please btw my knowledge stops at turning on the computer and my son is 14 so he's not much better

Ok, if you downloaded Minecraft_server.exe or Minecraft_server.jar, and you run it, it generates a file called server.properties, open it up and it'll look something like this

server-ip=

online-mode=true enables it for online play.
From the PC you're running it on, get the IP address from here
Get his friend to enter that IP address and they should be able to connect. If your son is playing on the same PC as the one that's running the server, just type 127.0.0.1 as the IP address.
