ive decided to try and connect my ps3 directly to my router to try to solve my nat type problem. thing is i need an ethernet cable thats 10metres in length and can obviously connect the router at one end and the ps3 at the other. went to my local computer repair shop and got what they said was an ethernet cable and although it went into the router fine, it would not go into the ps3 socket.

dont think you're nat type depends on what way you connect.Make sure your firewall is turned off on the modem and that you have opened the ports on the modem that the game uses

Connecting with ethernet should make the connection the correct NAT type automatically though, saves a fair bit of hassle. It's also good manners towards other players. :pac:

Put the PS3 as the dmz host on your router and it should work over wireless. The ethernet cable should be the same on both ends with this connection http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2005/11/23/pc_interfaces_101/rj_45_cables.jpg

Don't pay more than 10 or 20 euro for a 10m cable btw

Take it back. Was the plug on each end the same? Funny enough on both my fat and slim consoles I had to use a few different cables before one worked even though they worked fine with everything else.

A wired connection is the only way to get Nat type 1 isn't it?

I havent looked back after hooking mine up with a cable.

Playing demons souls i was being constantly disconnected until i plugged in the cable.

Funnily enough i never had any issues whilst playing anything else.

You should always use a wired connection where possible, for best results.

I got a 20m cable on ebay for €7 a while back, very handy
