Had this behind me earlier, couldn't take photos when I was driving, but it was a black 04 D Focus Van, 2 guys sitting in the front, passenger using a laptop, fire extinguisher between them, racking in the back, and I kid you not, about 30 antennae on the roof.

Anyone care to take a guess at what they were doing? Only thing I could think of were that they work for a network doing quality checks, etc.

mobile operators kit out vans for drive testing. they kit out vans and drive about making test calls to ensure the network is ok in certain areas. O2 use a couple of Mercedes Vans.

its called a hedgehog van , they have antennas for testing signal and data throughput on mobile networks, the back is normally full of lots of test kit and the operator just controls it from the passenger seat

That picture is more an extreme radio amateur !

The hedgehog van's have 9 or 12 antenna's in group by 3 from the front to back. They don't have to be very big for 900/1800/2100 MHz.

Digicell (well, when they were Digicell) used to use Mondeo's and that confused the heck out of some people thinking it's the Garda :)
