Bottle Bank - different colours

Can anyone tell me why you have to separate the glass colours at the bottle bank?

    Clear, Brown and Green.

Where does blue glass go? Orange? Red?

When the truck comes to empty the containers, they lift up the containers and lash all the glass into the back of the truck anyway, with no apparent apartheid in the truck, why so in the bottle bank itself?

Do you yourself keep the colours separate when you visit the bottle bank, or do you put clear glass in the brown glass container?

I put all my rubbish in there for free cause there's about a 10% chance of any of that getting recycled.:D

The truck has separate compartments. Green glass is melted down to make more green glass, so thats why its all put together. The odd clear glass or brown glass won't make much of a difference.

    Clear Glass only.
    Wash dark colours separately.
Keep hands and legs inside the carriage at all times.
    Do not press button.
    No smoking.
    Slow.

    Always obey the signs.

    Always.

No it doesn't, I've watched it many times. All the glass goes together, all mixed up.

I think the blue bottles just fly away

Well blue glass goes in the white one anyway. It says it on the outside..

They're supposed to go in seperate compartments. They do in other countries, that I've seen at least.

    But this is Ireland.

    Nope

I went to the local bottle bank after christmas...had quite a few bottles.
The guy collecting the bottles picked up each different colour collection compartment and dropped them all in one truck.

I gave him a funny look, as if to say they are meant to be seperated arent they?, had a quick chat and he confirmed no need.

    All bundled together.

So I dont understand why we have to seperate, I wont be in future thats for sure.

Maybe they want you to separate the glass out for that sense of well-being you get when you think you're making a difference?
