BTEA - Any leeway?

Hi , I'm just wondering if anyone knows how strict they are with the 234 days for BTEA allowance. I think I might be just under it in September.

Do they give any leeway or is it a dead strict rule that it must be 234 days?

Also, are they likely to change the number of days you need to qualify?

    Thanks in advance!!

most likely they wont change the number of required days this year.

How many days are you short?

When i applied for BTEA, I was 24 days short, I made an appointment with the facilitator at the social welfare office, explained my situation to him that I was short, and he approved my application.

I would advise you to make an appointment ASAP, explain you want to go to college.
Make sure you bring all relevant documentation of your course, application etc. Butter it up as best you can, and see what they can do.

Hello,I was 25 days short when I went back, unfortunately despite many letters etc nothing could be done.
However with the benefit of hindsight the advice from the previous poster sounds ideal.
Might I also add that you might speak to the college directly also.
When I mentioned it to the person in question in my case,I was told if I had let them know they might have been able to help.
Not sure if that's any good to you but best of luck :)

    Hey Everyone
Hoping you can help.Im currently on jobseekers benefit and planning to attend college this year.I am going to apply for the BTEA allowance but im worried about the 234 days minimum needed prior to my course. My first payment was dated Jan 19th and according to my sums I won't have 234 days Till mid Oct.This is worrying me, most courses start end of september...so will there be any leeway granted??
I originally went to dole office Jan 7th ish so will they take this in to consideration?
Should I talk to someone in dole office ? ( someone told me this not necessary or recommended till closer to application time.)
Have heard also the colleges can help perhaps too???
    Please help
    Thanking you in advance
    Fiona

    Hey All,

I'm also wondering how much leeway the will give. I signed on in January for JSB but I'm also allowed to work casually, I assume any days I work will be taken off the 234? I currently doing and eight week temporary contract and am worried that this will bring my days way down. Will they actually punish me for wanting to work?
I've been umemployed since last September but didn't sign on straight away, starting to wish I had.
