    Hi all,
Given my recent conversion to all things AK I've started lusting after some Soviet/Russian gear. I've taken a gander at soviet propaganda and red force and I'm trying to work out the sizing before I order myself the basics.

Does anyone know the corresponding sizes in inches for the sizes given on these sites? I've found Gorka oversuit and other camo uniforms that I'd like to order but cant work out the waist size - I'm thinking that the 54/180 size would fit someone five ten in height with a 36 inch (fat git) waist - no?

Any help would be very much appreciated folks.

    Cheers - Kev

Gorka is a term applied to similar suits made back into Soviet times. There are diffrent tipes of Gorka. Gorka-S, Gorka-R, Gorka-E. Ill try to explain the origins of this suit. The wide use of this mountain heavy cotton (heavy cotton - "bresent" in russian) suits began in afghanistan war. Suit was based on german WW2 mountain suit. Then heavy canvas suit became very popular among russians. There is a lot of mountain suits, tourist suits (called "shtormovka" - storm suit). The reason of popularity is a strong fabric. It cannot be torn in the forest, so this suit is used not only in mountains. In USSR and Russia the cotton quality was always very poor. Thats why many people prefer this suit. Very good Gorka suit is made by SSO conpany, its popular among the russian special forces. It is made of heavy canvas plus polycotton for reinforcements wich take a half or more of the suit surface.
The safety helmet ZSh-1 is intended for maintenance of protection of a head of the person from possible wounds by bullets from following types of the weapon: pistols PM of calibre of 9,0 mm, mm, pistols of calibre of 6,35 and 5,6 mm, pistol of calibre of 7,62 mm from a distance of 5 meters, and also by fragments (steel ball in weight 1 g V 50% no less 700 m/c). The helmet reduces the dynamic loadings arising at influence of the above-stated means of defeat..
The design of a helmet consists of the protective environment providing protection of frontal, parietal, occipital and temporal parts of a head of the person. The internal equipment of a helmet (hanging system, belts, a regulator of a tension) is intended for deduction on a head and absorption of dynamic influence of a bullet and splinters on a head of the person at bombardment.
