Shower stopped working - need a plumber?

    Hi

My shower is one that is part of the bath and attached to the tap via an additional water outlet. To use the shower you run the tap and then pull up a little knob and then the water flows out of the shower instead of the tap. This suddenly stopped working the other morning and now the water just comes out of the tap and won't come out of the shower at all. Is this easy enough to fix yourself (got any instructions?) or is a plumber required? How much would usually be charged for this job?

    Thanks!

If you pull the diverter up does the water come out of the head at all. ie does it come out then stop and fall down again.

    Hey Joey

It comes out a bit and then it just falls down again, most of the water is just coming out the tap :(

    Thanks for replying!

It sounds like a pressure problem. Are you living in a house or apartment.

Has any other taps slowed down.

In an apartment but no problems with any other taps - the bathroom tap was spluttering a little the other day but seems grand again now. The water pressure doesn't seem to have reduced at all - just the shower is the issue

The rubber washer in the diverter has probably torn/broken up. If someone were to dismantle the diverter and replace the washer it will work fine. ;)Easy job to do if you can get the right washer!! If not I'm afraid it is a new mixer.:(

Note: In some mixer sets the washer cannot be replaced!

Thanks Minigolf - fingers crossed it's just the washer!

Most of them now tbh. However if you know someone who knows someone they might be able to get you a new diverter.

can you take the shower head down from the wall bracket if its on it, lay it in the bath then turn it on with the diverter pulled up, see if the plunger still drops...
