hi guys ! need the experts to help me here !

    ok this is the situation

I have purchased a Samsung Smart TV D6600 which has the following

    3D Sound
    SRS TheatreSound HD
    Dolby Digital Plus
    4 HDMI connections

now, since my surround system only accepts 1 input (in this case i want to use the Optical) is it possible to do the following

Connect my PS3 through HDMI to my TV
Connect my 3D player through HDMI to my TV
Connect my HD receiver through HDMI to my TV
and have an optical cable connected between my TV and my Surround
    system.

will the sound be 5.1 or DTS surround ?? if i follow the above route?
the salesman in Samsung said YES ! then again he is a salesman , so cant trust him 100% !!

what do you guys think ?

I've had a google and not found the 6600 listed on samsung.ie but I did read the manual for the D6510 and it does seem like that TV can act like a AVR, outputting sound through the optical SPDif. It should be in the Sound Settings section of the manual, presumably "External Speaker" is what you want to pick.

i surely hope so !! or else i will visit that salesman again with my baseball bat !!! :D

here is the link for the D6600

it is very similar to the D6500 ...

A model number would be a start. Normally TVs only output stereo from the optical output, therefore you would not be getting actual 5.1 only 2.0.

Got this from the 6500 manual.

    "DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL)
When a Digital Audio System is connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack, decrease the volume
of both the TV and the system.
5.1 CH (channel) audio is available when the TV is connected to an external device supporting 5.1 CH.
When the receiver (amplifier or DVD home theater) is set to on, you can hear sound output from the TV’s
optical jack. When the TV is receiving a DTV signal, the TV will send 5.1 CH sound to the amplifier or DVD
home theater. When the source is a digital component such as a DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB
(Set-Top-Box) satellite receiver and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 CH audio will be heard from the
amplifier or DVD home theater. If you want to hear 5.1 CH audio, connect the digital audio out jack from your
DVD / Blu-ray player / cable box / STB satellite receiver directly to an amplifier or home theater."

ok, if this is the case, the sound being sterio and not 5.1

is there some sort of device where i can input all HDMIs into and that devices is connected to my surround system to output the sound and to my TV to output the image? while keeping the 5.1 suround ?

I'd suggest an new A/V receiver and speakers. That's the problem with the all in one packages, they rarely have enough inputs.

    ok guys,
i got myself a yamaha RX-467 receiver with a Bose Acoustimass 6 ... which is more than sufficient for my TV room which is around 5m by 4m !

i read alot of reviews on various receivers, so i opted for the Yamaha, plus price and quality were very attractive ! same for the Bose, various opinions from people on Bose, but again, they were on a special promotion, for 300 dollars, which in my opinion was a crazy offer to miss !

now, i have connected all my items (PS3 + Blueray 3D player + HD receiver) to the Yamaha receiver via HDMI (v1.4) ! and from the yamaha to the Samsung D6600 via also HDMI (v1.4)

the question is, will the connecting via yamaha then to TV affect the 3D quality of the image? (RX-465 is 3D compatible) ... i have watched a 3D channel from my receiver, the 3D was working fine .. but i was wondering if the motion of the image is affected from the yamaha or it is simply due to the signal of the channel itself received via statellite?

the question can be summarized as follow:
all these TVs are increasing their motion speed : 200hz then 400hz then 600hz .... will the motion speed be affected if it goes through an A/V receiver then to the TV ? in 2D or 3D ??

    thanks guys !

3d video will be passthrough on the amp. if you want to make sure all video passes through untouched just make sure any upscaling/video processing is turned off on your amp

If your hd provider is Sky hd,you should note that Sky does not output 5.1 sound through their hdmi cable ,for that you will need to use the optical cable as well.
