I was just wondering if I got the grant this year, do I automatically receive it next year, or do I have to re-apply?

I applied to Fingal in first year, during the summer before second year they sent out forms that were like a short version of the first application. Just stuff like income for the last year etc. plus the relevant P60s or whatever.

So it's not as awkward as the initial application, but you do have to do some filling out, yes. If in doubt, get in touch with them (I know that's easier said than done!).

I thought there was talk of centralising the application system this year. So that may change things!

Throughout my undergrad years I never had to reapply.

I think it depends on which county council you're under. Some want you to reapply and some don't.

My county council was Mayo CoCo.

You'd probably get better answers in the Student Finances Forum.

It's like true-or-false said, it's a re-application form rather than an initial application. And the centralisation thing won't be in place til the academic year 12/13. Then I think you'll be able to apply online as well and all students will get the grant into their bank account and won't have to deal with the thundering cows in Student Records. Plus we can all welcome the civil service to the 21st century.
