Calf Injury / Orthotics

A couple of months ago I injured my calf, think it was no more than a strain, wasnt bruised, but despite my rests for say a week, not much more, when I ramp up again as soon as I do speedwork or go over 35 / 40 minutes tempo I begin to hit that 'red-line' point. Been to physio, they usually try get me back running easy after few days and take my time building up. Its not so much the back of the calf, its sort of on the inside on the leg just down at the bottom of the muscle. Just wondering if anyone else has any similar stories or suggestions / recommendations to share involving period of rest and rehab work that may help me understand this better??

Speaking of calf injuries, as this injury is affecting both calfs, orthotics have been suggested to me, what do people think of these as a way to tackle such injury / niggle, have people had success rates with these or indifferent to them? Quite alot of money and a big shift in running style on the feet so something Im not willing to just go out and sample like a new pair of socks!!

Probably worth mentioning here that, I do understand that Boards.ie doesnt encourage medical advice here and is against it. I dont intend to take any advice here as gospel, rather as stated, try to round up as many pieces of the jigsaw as possible to get a better idea of this long running aggravation! :D

hey Scholesy1981, in relation to orthodicts, when i started running a few years ago i had terrible problems with my knees, i would constantly breahdown as i built up the mileage during marathon training. I went to the sports clinic in maynooth, had a
consultation and got fitted for orthodicts. The knee pain went and ...touch wood ...have not got any problems since with my knees....I'm just saying that they worked for me but I still get injured with the usual, calve strains, shin splints etc, so they are not a cure all. They cost about €350 a pair and last about two years at most. Hope this helps somewhat....

good man Cork_boie! Kinda the lines I was thinking along! Orthotics have been suggested to me and along with the calves have been other niggles so Im kinda thinking it may be time to take a gamble, make an investment, and switch from my trusted 1100 series to neurtrals so as to have custom made orthotics inserted and hopefully that may do the job!
