    hello,

some of you might remember, I posted here before around nov/dec last year looking for help with insurance on a 973cc corsa.
I was getting pretty ridiculous quotes more than likely due to the fact I was 17, male, leaner permit.

Anyway, in the end, as suggested by a boardsie, I went with Aviva's 10 lessons + 6 month free offer. The policy started on the 1st of Jan. I had my 10 lessons and I took my test last week which I passed. Passing my test unfortunately meant that my insurance was invalid.

So this is where I am now. 17(18 next month), full license, 6 month named driver exp, trying to get insured on a 973cc corsa.
Ive rang up a lot of insurance companys and I'm getting anything from 1650 to 3500.

The 1650 is from britton insurance and its looking like my only option atm.

Is this reasonable quote given my age/sex/car?
Is there any other insurance companys out there that are giving decent quotes atm?

    All suggestions/advice is really appreciated.

    thanks

No it's not reasonable, but it's the cheapest you will have to pay.

TBH, it's not a bad price

I dont think it's a bad quote tbh.

Have you tried ringing everyone? If so then pay it, if not then shop around.

You generally won't go wrong if you try some of the larger sites like chill.ie.

I'm thinking of changing to the Ulster Bank Motor Insurance having been with Best Quote for the last five years, handier to have everything in the one shop and they're partnered with Aviva so I can have my Health Insurance with them as well.

Some pointers here as well http://www.irishtimes.com/money/car-insurance/

Find it extremely annoying that my insurance hasn't dropped more in the the last three years as I've gotten older and kept my no claims bonue.

Jeez! I'm getting my first insurance with them and it was less than €1300, then again I'm 30, but I am on a learner's permit.

The fact that you have your full licence and did the 10 lessons with them I thought it was going to be cheap enough.

Is that online or did you ring them?

Tesco require nothing of the sort, I'm a L driver with no previous driving experience and thus no NCB but I got the best quote from them.

Passing my test unfortunately meant that my insurance was invalid.
    why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,516 ✭✭✭Wheety

    why?
Think he was on a parent's insurance as a named driver on the learner permit. It's only for learning so the fact he's now passed the test he is no longer insured on it. It's 6 months free insurance while learning.

When did you take out your insurance?
    why?
When I took out the insurance I was told that it would hecome invalid one I passed my test. I don't know why, but that's what I was told.

Licence type unfortunatly does not mean shag all in the grand scheme of things. Its your age mostly and the fact you are a bloke too.

One hint I can give.Find out if any of your family members have business with FBD,particularly farm or commercial business policies with ideally one of your parents being the policy holder. They will bend over backwards for you.

In fairness though, you will be hard pushed to beat that price from Brittons as they broker for a huge number of companies.

Thanks for the advice Otis. Unfortuently, I have no family with fbd. I think Il b taking brittonss quote tomorrow morning at this stage. It will come down next year as I build up a no claims for myself I suppose:)

just rang them up. they told me you need a 2 yr no claims in your own name.

@James, I got my insurance on the 21st of April, so hardly anytime ago at all. I bought mine online from them with no hassle and no problems about NCB. I had to ring them when I got the proposal form to send back alright because it asked me to include proof of my NCB but the woman I was talking to said not to worry about it because they knew I had no NCB.
