New models & very disappointed

I've noticed a few new popular models that have really disappointed me from the previous versions.

Passat - Liked the previous model, thought it looked really well. The new model is sooooo plain looking. Quite elegant but so boring and all straight lines. When i saw the first one on the roads I thought it was the new Jetta. After the later passat cc I expected alot more from this. Wouldn't even consider buying this now.

Focus - Hatchback Focuses have always stood out for me as being a little bit different & again the new model doesn't stand out in a crowd at all. The distinctive rear lights are gone and now looks the same as any other hatch.

BMW 5 series - Every model in the past I have loved but the new one just doesn't do it for me. Every time I see one I immediately think "old man mercedes".

Micra - Now I would never buy one but always admired the last model for being slightly out there with its design. The new one again could be any other car at a glanze.

The roads are getting quite depressing with little to admire for me.

Would really hate to be someone who has always upgraded through previous models and then suddenly dislike the latest.

Any other models you've been disappointed in when new version arrived (past or present)?

It's not a mere beauty parade. The 3 cars you've mentioned (Micra ignored) are all at worst competitive.

I like the new 5, Passat is a tad bland.

Isn't the "old man mercedes" market the exact one that BMW are targeting with the new 5? Especially considering that there's not as many "young man M3" people around with money these days.

I always thought the last 5 series had a bit of sportiness about it, the new one just doesn't hold that image for me. I'm sure its probably still a terrific drive.

I would expect nothing more in a global recession, conservative designs and re-hashed versions of previous models. When the next boom hits the next Bangle will rise and we then can all start moaning about how ugly new cars are.

The Passat was always boring looking. The Focus was always boring looking, but the new one is actually ugly at the rear. The 5 series used to be dull, then there was that one slightly interesting Bangle model, now it's gone back to being dull.

I don't know what the new Micra looks like, but the old one only looked a little interesting because they tried to make it look a bit like the original Fiat 500.

These are very boring, mainstream cars, so I'm not surprised the new versions are also dull.

Yeah but when the last one came out, there was money everywhere. I know it's a generalisation but it kind of is old man mercedes who has the money for them nowadays.

In my opinion, the nicest 5 series ever was the E39.

Saw an 11 reg one in white with the M-tec kit in Newbridge earlier. Didn't have my camera phone with me but it was gorgeous...

The passat is brutal, the micra is vomit inducing and the focus is just wrong looking!

Every time a new 5-series comes out i dont like it.
Every time i start liking it after a while. They need a little getting used to, i guess.

the Passat has been boring for a very long time imo.
Even the Insignia is a nicer car.My favorite "new" car would be the Accord, prefer it to the new 5er,although that comparison mightn't be fair..

I can't think of any 'normal' cars built in the last ten years that I like.

New Audi A8 is terrible whereas I would very much like to own the previous model.

The VW Golf for me, same basic shape since the MkI, just grown in size and smoothened off over the years. I think VW are afraid to get adventurish incase they alienate their loyal followers.

Totally agree with the 4 cars you mention. Total disappointment with the design. Particularly the Passat. Was a great looking car, now it is just a boring box
