Insurance question

I have fully comp insurance which allows me to drive other peoples' cars (with their permission) with third-party cover, but is this still valid if the person who owns the car isn't insured on it? (i.e. Can I drive someone else's car if they have no insurance?)

That depends on the t&cs of your own insurance policy.

Depends on the policy - you'd need to check the docs/website for more info on it

(if it's Quinn, the answer is yes, but the car is only insured when you're driving it so parking it somewhere on public propertly leaves it open to a ticket or two)

It sounds a bit risky to me. Only way I'd satisfy myself is pick up the phone and ring my insurance co. I wouldn't go by what would be said on an internet forum. When it comes to insurance don't take any risks!

My own policy doc doesn't mention anything about them needing to be insured on it, I thought there wouldn't be a problem but someone told me otherwise so I asked here. I'll phone my insurance company to be sure.

If you phone them you can't trust the person who talks to you, their job is to deal with quotations and renewals, not to provide a legal interpretation of the policy.

Just as on boards.ie you will get different opinions depending on who you talk to so I wouldn't trust anything they say on the phone because they can deny it afterwards, they have the call recorded, you don't.

Download the policy and read it. My policy (Axa) includes the condition that the (other person's) car I'm driving must not be on hire and must not be on a lease with my employer, otherwise I can drive any car regardless of whether it's covered by a policy or not.
