Questions about a comms setup for my radio

Hey, I've been looking on the internet at things to buy for a comms setup for my Binatone action 950 radio because I'd like to use a headset and PTT rather than just the radio.

Because as many of you know, it's kinda annoying when you're trying to avoid getting spotted by the enemy and then your radio goes off and gives your position away. And it's worse when someone on your team keeps hitting their call button by accident or someone with a different brand radio sets off the call alarm on your radio when they try to transmit. This has often resulted in days where I set my volume down to the minimum or turn my radio off altogether.

Now, back on topic, I've been looking at a Bowman clone headset (I like how it looks) and a motorola one pin PTT set.

I've been looking at these two items:

    http://www.ebairsoft.com/elite-headset-bf027-military-standard-plug-p-4343.html

(this one is with the motorola one pin PTT option)
    http://www.ebairsoft.com/element-military-standard-plug-version-p-2593.html

I don't have much money to spend so that is why I've selected those two products. Also, I'm not really bothered about how long the delivery time is at the moment.

Now, on with a few questions.

Unfortunately, it is quite difficult to find a binatone specific PTT headset, but I think that a motorola headset can work with a binatone but an adaptor might be necessary.
Does anyone know what diameter the pin is in a motorola one pin PTT? The binatone has a 2.5mm one pin headset port but I have a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adaptor at home if the motorola pin is 3.5mm and not 2.5mm. I've tested my phones handsfree headset with the adaptor and it appeared to work with the radio.

Also, what are peoples opinions on the retailer and products in general? I've seen from previous threads that the delivery time can be long sometimes and that customer service in the case that something goes wrong can leave something to be desired at times.

I'm in no rush to make this purchase but would like to get some other peoples' opinions and experiences. Other binatone users experiences with headsets and PTTs would be very muchly appreciated.

    hey,
I recently began my search in this too and was delighted to find a thread here that i think was about 2 years old and there were many solutions and links but one guy had the easiest and most cost effective solution for radios like yours and mine and thats to but the headsets used for the xbox 360 as they are 2.5 mm and they operate a VOX system(voice activated) so I went and bought one and they work just have to configure it better as have not been able to test it fully but my voice can travel down without pressing the button 75% of the tima and I can hear myself on the earplug(I bought the Gucci throat mic genereic brand for 15euro in tesco!)
    hope this helps

Try to use the push to talk more then VOX. as for the main poster the headset will work but i found them to be not great . This how every are very good and never let me down http://www.redwolfairsoft.com/redwolf/airsoft/ProductDetail?prodID=27661

One good thing about these is you can buy the different plugs for them but again price is allot higher but they work great .

Thanks, good to hear from another cork airsofter. Were you using this at bandon last December/January? I remember someone there using an xbox headset for their radios. I might look at a more military looking headset at the moment, and I mightn't get a throat mic because of the setup and practise they take. But if they are only about €15 I might pick one up to check it out, thanks.

Thanks, Do you know if the PTT that I linked will work with that headset? It's an element PTT for headsets for use with a motorola one pin. It should work and is about half the price of one off redwolf.

It depends i bought one off them it didn't work well , the one off redwolf is allot dearer but it works solid. again you pay for what you get and tbh i bought the cheaper one and had to buy the dearer one later on, again there is other headsets out there cheaper too .

I'll probably go for the cheaper PTT because as it is it'll cost me €50 including postage for the cavalvy headset (the redwolf one you recommended) and the PTT. If it isn't working too well then me and my friend can just open it up and sort out the wiring as that's usually the problem with them if they aren't working properly.

I tried on my friends headset today and I'm pretty sure it's the same as the cavalvy one you recommended and found it very comfortable and he always uses it when he plays and found it good.

Where did you get these can you remember? I tried looking in my local tescoes but I couldn't see them. If they can be got for €15 I might pick up a set as well as a regular headset.

hey bud nice to meet another cork airsofter too!!! (did you get the impresion this is practically full of dubs too!!!:D:D
but ya anyway I got mine in Tescos Mahon Point got the last oneMonday but I was told they will have more in today or tomorrow. Their made by Mic1.
No I wasnt the guy in bandon though. But as jeawan said if you dont wanna use the VOX (which I think is handy) you could always push the button on the side instead!! but they work perfect for what you want in sniper role.
