Best quality TV for less than 500?

Moving into a new house with the girlfriend, we need to get a tv but to be honest lads I dont know where to start. Any pointers in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
We will be getting Sky HD so the highest HD quality the better.
Id also like a 42inch or bigger.
What would be your choice?
