Im looking for someone in the Louth part of the country who could make me up a bag.

Its hard to explain this, its a bag for a rifle. It would need to be lined with foam (or whatever material you think) that would give some protection from bangs and drops.

The bag would have to open all the way around via zip for easy access.

On the inside it will need pockets for carrying different bits and bobs.

It would also need straps of some sort to hold the rifle in place, so that its not rattling around in the bag.

The outside will have to be lined with a material that is quiet and isnt going to be making all the noise of the day every time it rubs against something.

The bag has to be weather proof aswell

And the inside material has to be able to take extreme heat from a hot rifle being strapped back in.

It will need straps for carrying. Ideally 2 straps so I can carry it like a ruck sack, and then maybe a third strap so I can sling it over one shoulder like a laptop bag.

And importantly the bag has to be very durable. Id like this bag to last me for a few years.

Id say it will be a big enough job for someone, I dont think you would have it done in 5 minutes. It woudl probably take a week or two. And obviously enough I wont expect you to do it just for the good of your health either.

I have the bag designed out here on paper the way I want it... but I'll want to sit down with someone and discuss it properly just to see what can be done and what cant be done and what my options are.

BTW: Chances are I'll end up getting you to make me up 2 bags. One for each gun.

    So any takers...??

Unless you have some crazy gun like an M95 ! Can you not buy a case/bag in the any of the gun shops ? I know theres one in Drogheda that seems to be fairly good.

Thats only a gun slip. That sorta thing is alright if your only going out to the field for a few hours. But try hiking up mountains with it. You wont be long handing it back. And on top of that Im just not pushed on slips in general. But thanks for the heads up all the same.

You could always try the North-Eastern Branch of the Irish Patchwork Society. Someone in that branch might be interested in making the gun bag for you. You can PM me for email details of the Chairperson of the branch if you want.
If there's any local craft fairs in your area, you might find someone at them who'd be able to make the bag. They could make the bag out of oilcloth or similar materials to waterproof it and have batting on the inside for insulation.

I can't see how you are going to get round the 'extreme heat' problem while using stitchable fabrics/wadding/foam. Would it be bad for the gun to more or less insulate the heat in?

I think you misunderstand. Its not so much about getting the heat away from the gun... the problem is the material itself has to be able to withstand the heat. I dont want a material thats going to shrink or go a bit funny or start smelling because of the heat.

Heres a video of a bag similar to what Im after....

Although mine wouldnt have all the bells and whistles of that one... or the 600euro price tag  I just want the basic bag, a few inside pockets and then after that, just as long as it keeps the rain out, gives a bit of protection from bumps and keeps the rifle held tight in place then Im almost sorted really.

And Millypenny... pm on the way :)

Just a note from someone whose other half airsofts, if you're taking this anywhere near the Republic it's best it NOT look like a gun bag.

Have you tried asking in local fabric shops ?(if there are any, hardly any around here). They might have a few stitchers locally who'd give it a go for you. Or someone who does alterations and repairs maybe, they'd usually give it a go. Maybe you could get someone to modify a luggage bag that was big enough but just needed the inside changed to accomodate your gun.

You're definitely going to need someone with an industrial sewing machine, because there is no way you'll be able to stitch something like heavy waxed canvas or goretex with your average sewing machine, and stitch pockets in the lining and durable straps to hold a rifle and some ammo. That's 4, 5 layers of fabric that have to be held together

The wadding is going to be a challenge, too. To protect your rifle, it'll have to be pretty thick wadding, maybe with a layer of some sort of insulation on top where the barrel is to contain the heat.
A dress maker could help you out, but getting your hands on fabrics that are suitable for what you're looking for is not going to be easy. Also, these fabrics usually are patented by the companies that make bags like that.

maybe you could buy a bag like the one in the youtube clip, and get it modified if you'd want extra bags on the inside ? If you do that however and the company gives a warranty, the moment you alter the bag, the warranty is void. And I know these things cost a lot of money.
Having a bag made to your specifications, time and fabrics and special coated yarn, clasps and the likes are not going to be cheap. On the other hand, you'll probably have a bag for life ;)
