punto mk1 '96 1.2 gearbox, some whining sound, still after new oil filled, it whining kind continuously sound through all gears. where and how much would cost to fix that? I know, somebody would say, go and get another gearbox... but i am afraid it'll have same or different problem.

i am handy with spanners and tools, might somebody point which bearings are common wear out, and where get them.

    thanks

If you have the time, tools and space. Go for it. I'd imagine if you tried

a garage to fix this i'd guess you'd be talking €300 plus, very labour

intensive job to do. Good luck with it, hope it works out well. Keep us

Good man, if you don't have one a Haynes manual would be ideal too.

Also a scrapyard might be a good bet for a donor gearbox too.

modern haynes manuals just tell you that your to thick to open the gearbox and to bring it to the nice man.

older manuals are much more detailed, with full exploded diagrams.
you will need a press and pullers though.

To repair a gearbox properly, you do need a few tools that are specialist. And to someone who is not used to pulling a gearbox apart, they are a black art to getting right. The hassle and aggravation involved is a lot more than getting a decent one from a scrapyard.

Punto gearboxes are dead handy to replace, and the step-by-step approach in the Haynes book is actually spot on. Perhaps one of the easiest boxes to pull out.

If swapping the box, stick a clutch kit in it as well (and a decent make at that too - cheap ones judder like f**k!)
