What's the best (most detailed & accurate) used car history check website to use? I'm read here recently someone saying the report from one was much better than another, but I can't remember what thread I read it in.

I believe motorcheck is good. They are also available to follow up on finance check by phone to the banks if a car was showing finance owed. I believe they can find out amount owed and if it has been very recently cleared etc.

I used motorcheck just there. One of the cars I was looking at was a Cat. C write off in the UK. Now I know that's not the end of the world but it's good to know, it's made me think twice about that particular car, especially because I'd have to travel to view it.

Bear in mind that no check is foolproof - a car of mine was written off by FBD in Feb 2008, and when I checked it a year later it was still showing up as clear.

In the UK repaired Cat D cars are worth about 75% of that of an undamaged car.
A cat C car could have had significant damage especially if it was a new high value car at the time. Cats A & B not allowed back on the road so that car could be at the very worst end of what was repairable. I wouldnt go for a Cat C.
If being repaired and put on the road in the uk, the car would have to have a thorough inspection. the danger is that alot of these Cat C & D are thrown back together and sent over here, bypassing the inspection. Very dodgy situation really and would need to be cheap and professionally checked.

If its for a UK car then it's a HPI check you are after?
