I'm actually going to be sleeping on the streets.

I'm going to Barcelona next weekend and because of the damn football, absolutely everywhere seems to be booked out or far too expensive for me to afford. I've already booked my bus ticket to Barcelona from Madrid, so I'm going regardless. But it looks like I'm gonna be on the streets all night.

Are there any alternatives? Have any of you been in this situation before?

Errr why not go the weekend after when things are quite?

You're only losing a bus ticket ffs.

Rent a car for the night and find a nice, quiet car park :p

I'm travelling alone, I spent 61 euro on a return bus ticket, I have barely any money left. If you think it's a good idea to just throw away a bus ticket worth 61 euro, fine, however I am not in an economical position to just squander that amount of money.

    you could try couch surfing!

Get a pop up tent. Takes flip all room to pack and, believe me, there is a difference between sleeping under the stars and sleeping in a tent!

Someone mentioned couch surfing, you should really consider it.

    http://www.couchsurfing.org/

It's free, you'll meet local and possibly interesting people and it's free.

It's a pretty legit argument, considering the copious amounts of people traveling from all over Spain to spend the weekend in Barcelona. I got an email back from a hostel saying this was the exact reason they were booked out - the demand for rooms was high because of the weekend that's in it. So, don't try to tell me I don't know what I'm talking about, when I clearly do and have asked others about it. The game might be on in Wembley, but Barcelona are involved, so obviously the place is gonna be buzzing. It's hardly gonna be dead, is it?

You could pack your best chat up lines and hope for the best.

Find an. Internet cafe that is open 24 hours. They often do a set price for night hours like 12 to 8. Doze in the chair.

Don't sleep under the stars in Barcelona. I have been there a few times in the last few years and although the place is beautiful during the day, at night it's really not safe. Cue all the comments telling you otherwise but a mate of mine was robbed blind one night down las ramblas.

I've also wandered through both well lit and dark streets and found them all the same in terms of dodgy heads around after dark.

As well as the football there'll also be an influx of music lovers for the Primavera Festival.

    Sleep in the airport?

Yeah, I’d say it’s more the primavera than the football. I was looking at going myself, but think not. I’d try couchsurfing if I were you, but be warned that if everywhere else is booked up, a lot of the couchsurfers might be ‘booked up’ too and people are more likely to take in long time couchsurfers than someone who just joined a few days ago. But worth a try.

Can you get a late train or bus out of the city, stay in a town in the suburbs that is along your return route?
Is it too expensive to book two nights in a hostel and just stay the one?
If hang around the streets and get mugged, you'll lose a lot more.

    Hope you sort it out.

If you are so broke then why are you going travelling? Cut your losses and run and try build up more reserves from your next jaunt when your finances are in a better shape. You need money for most things in life and travelling is certainly something that can't be done without at least the bare minimum which it sounds like you don't have.

Not really much of a holiday if you're going to be sleeping outside.
Either go and at least have the money available to sleep somewhere if you can't blag something. Otherwise, don't bother, you can get a lot more miserable than wasting 60 euros!

Many people on here have offered good ideas and valuable suggestions to you and that's all you have to say to them?

Common courtesy would be a follow-up to indicate what your solution was but I guess that would be the decent thing to do and too much hassle for you.

Jimmay you contributed jack shit to this thread so you're not really in a position to be nagging. Do you really really want the followup? He said he was grand. He probably got a hostel or couchsurfed or something.... who cares?

Jimmay, there is no need for people to follow up. Boards is not a soap opera.
And Karamoja, no need for that.

this problem happens each year here in Munich with octoberfest.
The only solution often is simply to research options within a cheap train ride away.

Barcelona has a reaonable suburban and regional train network. And its not too dear either I dont think.
There are nice coastal resorts not too far away (the folks were at one a few years back and though it was lovely).
Maybe look into what a train and accomodation would cost there?

You're right I couldn't give a fiddlers but I just happened to be reading it and thought there were some very clever ideas and good suggestions and I hope if I ever needed such advice that I would get as many tips as that. And thought the OP could appreciate peoples time and effort.

Fair enough Dory but what's a small bit of gratitude. I know people aren't contributing to be thanked all the time but it's nice and good manners that's all! Given the vast response the poster got I thought what a rude tw@t! :D

Warning issued to Jimmay for breach of peace.
I think this thread has run its course.
