I am setting up a patching circle for Pure Data where people can attend a workshop for free and work in a group to discuss and develop their patch. If you are interested in joining this group send me a mail and I will contact you when the date and venue is confirmed.

Note that this will be a workshop that will deal with open source software only and we will not be dealing with Max or any other non open source software.

If you are new to Pure Data and would like to find out more I recommend you follow these tutorials.

Hey Andy, Sounds interesting. I'm a big fan of PD and would be interested in this. You don't mention what county you're in, is it going to be Dublin based?

For anyone else interested the PureData forum http://puredata.hurleur.com/ can be a great source of information.

yeah, I watched the youtube videos on PD and it was very interesting. Alas, I have no rhythm or a note in my head so I think I should avoid such meetings - for you sake more than mine! :)

Yeah I'm in Meath at the moment but I do plan on doing the first session in Dundalk as I went to college there and it will be easier for me to get a group of some sorts there for the first session. You can get a return journey to Dundalk for 12 euros and it only takes an hour by bus.

However if your not keen on traveling up to Dundalk for the first session I do plan on doing a session in Dublin around August.

Hey, that sounds cool. I'm down in Carlow, so Dundalk is a bit too much of a stretch for me but when you hold one in Dublin let me know and I'll definitely come up. I'll PM you my email so you can keep me in the loop.

    Cheers,
    David.

Hi Andy, Thanks for the info. I've only just heard of Pd and downloaded it. It looks very interesting and I'd certainly like to delve into it a little deeper. Would be interested in an introduction, time permitting. 'Am looking forward to exploring it a bit more, however, I have far more classical musical experience than computer programming, so can't say how suitable I'd be to learning it.!!!!

    Eph.

Yeah it doesn't matter about your programming experience I am only using pd myself for the last six months and although I haven't mastered it fully(dont think I ever will) I think I have a pretty good grasp of it.

If your ever having trouble with something just mail me or I use this site alot and find it great for problem solving

Hi, is this still going on? I would be really interested.
I've been using pd for about a year and I've used it for a
few compositions(live processing, sampling, loops) and improvs etc.
I also use SPEAR, OpenMusic, TuxGuitar, SuperCollider
and would like to get better at Processing and LilyPond if anyone uses these...

    Thanks,
    Ben

Yeah pd is great software! I use a bit of processing myself too but not that much I have not heard of lilypond at all. The first meeting for the pdcircle will be in about 4 weeks in Dundalk. I'm having it there because I'm going to college there. However I'm also going to have a first meeting for a splinter Dublin group if your interested? If you'd like to mail me your email details and I will contact you when we are ready to start in Dublin!

Just some information about the format for the first meeting. We are hoping that people attending will show what work they are currently doing in Pd and everyone can chip in with ideas of how to develop a patch or area of work. Then at the end of the session we can have a short brainstorming session looking for ideas that the Pd Dublin Patching Circle can work on as a team. For example I know other Patching Circles have worked together on developing Patches for the MS Kinect! This would be great if we could work together on developing Pd for the community on a whole.

    All the Best,
    Andy
