How do I get a deal?

Looking to book a last minute deal up to end of June.
Never done it before so wondering what's the best way to go about it?
What sites should I go to, shops, airlines etc?
Am I better off booking seperate flight and accomodation or travel company all in?
I've registered to a couple of sites before but they never send any last minute deals out.
I'n guessing it won't be easy with 2 adults, 3 older kids as needing 2 bedrooms at least will push the price up?
Was thinking Portugal but not sure about things to do for teenagers there.
    Any help would be great.

Booking separately for flights & accom won't work out for a last minute deal.

Sunway.ie are sometimes good for last minute packages, however you're looking at peak season so even late stuff won't necessarily be a bargain.

Best tip is to look at every tour operators' site and be flexible about your destination and maybe even your point of departure. If you check teletext you can get some great bargains ex UK.

Not sure I agree with mikedragon above.Last year I booked Portugal, via Ryanair, to Faro, and the hotel via Booking.comStayed at the same place as was in a local travel co brochure, for 1/2 the price. Only thing missing was the transport from airport to hotel.Suggest you look at Ryanair first and check out flights and take it from there.

How far in advance did you book? My experience is that low cost carriers are not cheap if you're looking for late deals.
