Quick and only answer is no.She'll get used to using it very quickly and it'll be like 2nd nature to her in no time.Best thing to do is set her most watched channels as favourites so then she can use the blue button to cycle through them and then just hit select to watch the channel she wants. This doesn't work for 'other channels' though.TV3 is essentially UTV anyway but if she wants to watch UTV then it just takes a couple of button presses.

A Harmony Remote should allow you do this. You would create an activity - e.g. Watching TV. You can have ten different sequences (macros), each with five steps, per activity. One sequence could be '101' and you could assign this to button 1. Another sequence could be to get UTV on other channels which you could assign to any button you want. Only problem I see, apart from them being expensive, is that it could take a couple of seconds for the remote to go through the steps to select UTV, and the remote would have to be pointed at the TV during this period.

If her mother can't use a Sky remote(my 2 year old can) She's gona be completely baffled by a Harmony(good remotes though if expensive)
A couple of days using a Sky remote and it'll be as if she always used one.

You simply don't know that this is the case. We use a Harmony for a close relative with mild Alzeimers and it is far easier for her to use than the cable one. The crucial differences are:

    1. Only one button push per station - which she is used to.
    2. A single button push, labelled RTE1, resets everything, if she has got stuck due to pushing the wrong buttons. (Means we can "get her going again", over the phone.)

Having said that, it would be great to have a programmable remote with just the ten numbers and a volume and on off switch. Maybe there is one, but I haven't been able to find it. I agree that Sky is great for the younger generation.
