In a predicament with my iTunes library and iPod.

So the way things stand at the minute, I have got no music in my iTunes library, 15 gb of music on my ipod and the same 15 gb saved in a folder on my computer.

The problem is none of this music has cover flow so this is my predicament; to edit my music I have to access my ipod library through iTunes, which would be okay if my iPod didn't automatically sync any time I open the "get info". It still works but it's just a painstaking process.

    So what to do?

I was thinking put all of the music into my iTunes library, edit it(without constant syncing), wipe my ipod library and just put them all back in with Cover Flow included. What do you think?

Or is there an easier solution to my problem?

well i just looked it up and i'm not sure what ya could do, ya could try sharepod and use it to back up the ipod to a folder and then import that folder to itunes, i'm not sure if it would work but its worth a try

Is there a way to do this? I didn't see anything in options or preferences.

    I've never had that problem.

    http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/faqs/answers/how-do-i-stop-the-ipod-from-auto-syncing-when-connected-to-itunes-if-i-auto/

That said I've never used Auto synch I usually turn it off from the start.

If all the stufff is already saved to the HD, (and backed up) you could delete everything on the iPod, fix the library the copy it all back over.

When you plug the iPod in, interrupt the sync by clicking x in the window at the top of iTunes. In the summary tab, unclick sync. Alternatively, you could try stop iTunes from launching when plugging in the iPod.
You can get a programme called iPod explorer that will allow you to copy the music from the iPod to the automatically add to iTunes folder. This might also pull in the album art at the same time

even if i stopped the sync anytime i wanted to change sync settings i always had to sync first

isnt ipod explorer only a trial version so i doubt it would move 15gb

You don't need ipod explorer, he already has a copy on the HD. You don't have to add artwork individually either. You can just get it to update the whole library.

I've tried that God-knows-how-many times and it never worked. Worked today though. about 450/600 albums now have album art!!!

Thanks very much. This is great news.

Thanks to Guil for SharePod and
Thanks to BostonB for the fix.

I don't really like iTunes but it works ok most of the time. It does too much for the user, often confusing them. I find most people who use iTunes, their music libraries are a complete mess.

If you have backup of you music somewhere you should have no problem deleting everything and starting over again.
