Pretty sure bmw sorted all the 3series turbo models in 2004

Just over 83,000 kilometers on mine since '06. No engine problems to report.

BMW fixed the turbo issue in all late E46 cars but the E90 will still suffer from turbo failure if owners fail to change the breather filter every third oil service as per BMW recommendations. Personally I'd change it every second oil service buta thats my own opinion.

As above, In my experience they haven't really fixed the problem as much as they've changed the service requirements to reduce the chances of the turbo issues occuring.

IMO only buy one if you will be doing very little city or heavy traffic driving and plan to meticulously maintain it at the correct scheduals and with the correct oils and parts etc. IMO to keep them any way reliable they have to minded like a baby.

To be fair covering fifty thousand miles without breaking isn't really an accomplishment.

exactly where is that filter you need to change on the E90,
Im sure if there is turbo trouble on these you will hear a whine when you rev it up

You should be fine if you service the car correctly...not typical paddy fashion! However the DMF has caused some headaches on the E90

My mother just dropped her 2007 E90 320d auto down to me this morning, it's down on power and whistling, in her words, 'like the police are after me'. Mondial will be out to collect it shortly.

Worse, they've just been out to look at it and it's a problem with the actual turbocharger. Thank God I extended the warranty..

Out of interest what kind of mileage was on that car? Was it looked after?

81k kms. My mother bought it new, it had the Service Inclusive Pack so it was always serviced as per the computer. I'd be fairly certain this means that the breather filter was never touched, though. It was always driven fairly gently.

    Hi
my bmw e90 seems slow and takes a while to built up power but once built up its very good but the e46 was much quicker i think..

Anyway I spoke to main dealer today and he told me the e90 gives the same trouble as the e46 with the filter but they say they supply a special modified filter that sits on top and very easily fitted and costs €70...its the only solution he says..

    anyone know anything about these
