Hi could anyone tell me what type radio I should buy to listen to Irish stations in Morocco. I know I can listen to live radio on the net but want to have a radio as well. If you could recommend a make and model that would be good, dont want to spend too much so if recommending please keep that in mind, just something that will give me good reception.

Longwave 252 is currently occupied by RTE 1.

You need a short wave receiver but these depend on conditions and antenna. You could get one that works brilliantly for a €10 from ASDA/Lidl or spend €400 [or thousands for the professional hobby models] and still not get a better signal if conditions and location is not conducive.

They can fit in the shirt pocket or be as big as ghetto blasters ~ http://www.dxing.com/swrx.htm

Amazon have a couple of mid range models here ~ http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=shortwave+radio&x=0&y=0

RTE only does an hour a day on shortwave, see here.

You will not get RTE Radio 1 on 252 kHz in Morocco because Algeria uses a very powerful transmitter on that frequency. There are no other Irish stations on LW or MW so I'm afraid you can forget about radio and use the internet.

Thanks for the information, looks like I will have to use laptop. Reason I do not want to use laptop is that I would have it on all the time and wonder if this is not too good for my laptop, its not a very good one and is 3years old now. Thanks again for your input.

You might get it on Satellite with a big enough dish there.
