    Hey all.I bought Starcraft a few months back and I really enjoyed the idea of playing against other players in a strategy game format.I thought I would be at least half decent at it but it turns out im not.I played about 20 games and won 1.I go through phases of "Will I give it another go?" and every time I do I lose and get pissed off at the idea of playing it again.

    Anyway, Im just wondering if anyone out there with some experience at the game could give me some tips, or if there is any possibility that someone could join me in game to give me some pointers?

    Thanks all- P

    first off, go watch some day9 on youtube.

    he gives some great advice on how to play, what to build, what to do, what to expect etc and he does it for beginners too.

    Stick with it Padman, it's not all about the winning, I know it can be disheartening but you will get better, in a few months time if you look back on your early replays you will be stunned at how much better you are.

    Maybe play some games of 2v2, 3v3 and 4v4, so you have some allies. At least when you lose together it's less of a crushing feeling. I'm not saying you should just play those types of games, but they can help make that feeling of sucking less harsh.

    Check out Day9, watch pro replays, and keep reading stuff online.
    For pro-replays I really enjoy Husky (http://www.youtube.com/user/HuskyStarcraft). He's goofy and he explains what's going on in the game.

    A few bullet points that are absolutely crucial;
    - Learn hotkeys and grouping of units/buildings.
    - Don't build more buildings than you can afford to produce from. And don't queue more than 2 units at a time. You ideally want one unit from each building at a time. Not one building with 5 units queued (I used to play starcraft 1 that way = fail)
    - Keep producing workers.
    - Scout what your opponent is building and then build counter units to what he has or just make sure you build more than him and faster. You want to check at regular intervals what your opponent is doing so that you don't get caught off guard.

    Those are my 5 cents of newbie tips. And I'm fairly poor at the game as well. The rest is just about staying on top of all these things AT ONCE, which is the tricky part. And later on it becomes more about build orders and micro.

    If you get onto the IRC chat channel then there will always be people there available to help you out with practice games or to watch your replays and give advice. The starcraft community is really friendly here in Ireland. I only got on-board about 2 month ago or so and everyone has been really cool. You came to the right place. Don't give up on this game cause it's awesome.
