Ladies and Gentlemen ! I am seeking some guidance...

    Just a simple question.

What is in demand or will be in demand in the IT industry ?
Networking specialists, cloud computing (vmware? dont know much about this) or it seems the good oul swiss army knife I.T. administrator is in demand right now ... "requirements : Microsoft exchange, active directory, cisco, sql, linux, VMware...," and everything else... the salary for these type of jobs seems low to me (25k - 35k on jobs.ie)

Applied for 2 CCNA type jobs... could only find 2 ! These are obviously not in demand.

    Thoughts... opinions ?

    Congrats on acheiving your CCNA.

Any idea what you want to get into? You want to be a sys/network admin?

I would recommend maybe getting some OS certs next - either windows or *nix. They should complement your CCNA but remember a CCNA, while I found it good, is not everything so you may need to get some experience to go along with it even if it is in the lower paid bracket.

Not sure really. I think I would prefer to specialise in networking.
I think the ideal situation would to be get a CCNA job and then start working on CCNP. The problem is the lack of CCNA and CCNP jobs.

The Sys admin path seems more complicated requiring more certs and exposure to more technologies

If networking is really what you're into then continue with the CCNP. There aren't really CCNA level jobs. If you're not working at the moment, take any IT admin job you can and make it clear to the other IT admins that you're really interested in networking and will take any networking task they throw your way, even if it's out of hours. Try to come up with solutions to networking issues they're having.

From their, once you have a real enthusiasm for networking, you can try to get a networking role. Experience, certs and enthusiasm will boost your chances.

    Hi,
Nice one, congrats on the cert !
There are no more CCNx positions...these days a company expects that a SysAdmin or a SysEng to know all the CCNA and/or CCNP stuff, beside the OS (Windows and/or Linux) stuff.
I watched the job market going from CCNx to all-in-one positions...though times !

Get a job ,even as a junior sysadmin, and then move on on the market but ,by working, you can have exposure to real life, real equipment and more important,to real experince/exposure and frustrations...which will build up your level of confidence and experience !
forget the CVs,those papers can be easily done... :)

    Good luck...

Starting to study Active Directory 70-640 to improve my chances.
Its probably the most common requirement I see on most IT Tech jobs.
Would prefer to start studying CCNP, but I think this would take much longer and be more difficult to achieve, especially without any proper experience.

Need to get a better job pronto ! Sick of working just to eat :o

tbh you will have a better success rate if you go for the CCNP I think.

    Why?
Because if you start to lean towards Windows you start to become a generalist and not a specialist.

The CCNP is definately achievable within about four months if you can really commit to it and study ALOT of hours.
I'd guess it'd be a better option in terms of a getting a stable job too.

If you specifically want to use your CCNA and continue along the cisco route then I'd start applying for jobs in ISPs/datacentres.
