Crashed my car last october lads, hit a deer on the motorway and wrote it off. Anyway thats all sorted now but i have to renew my insurance next month and got the quote in the door yesterday for 1400 euro  . I know i claimed but i had no choice in the matter really. I got a few brokers names already from a few lads on here but would like a few more as i will really need to shop around. I am resigned to the fact of having to pay over 1k to be insured but dont really want to pay 1400.

    Any suggestions,

    Cheers lads

Seems a bit steep. I crashed into the back of some ape and wrote off his car. They fixed my car and his car was wrote off-so he got a about 2 grand (a 00 focus). Quote this year was 900. I thought itd be way more. Quinn Direct. Very easy to deal with.I cant recommend them enough. And no I dont work for em BTW:D.

i lost my no claims bonus thats whats crucifying me, my insurance was 700 last year, did you have no claims (step back) protection on your policy?

It totally depends on the policy and the amount of the claim. Some policies allow you to claim upto a certain amount before it effects your no claims discount. Then when it does effect your no claims discount it depends on whether your policy includes step back protection which means any claim made for x amount against your policy means you loose x% or x no of years off your no claims discount rather than having to start at zero again.

OP, all I can advise you do is ring every broker and insurance company in the land and see who can offer you the best cover at the most competitive price. Unfortunately you made a claim (granted, through no fault of your own) which means you most likely will carry a loading to whatever insurance company to go to.

    Cheers,
I realise i am going to have to pay more, just wondering was there anyone in a similar situation in the past that might know the best broker to go too instead of me spendin the day ringing around.

Apes shouldn't be allowed drive cars though.

The quote from my current insurance company is starting from scratch again so there should be no real advantage to staying with them to be honest

Have you tried FBD. Quinn Direct were looking for 1800 euro off me for my renewal after a claim ( fully comp was about 650 before claim ) I ended up getting a quote of 1000 euro TPFT from FBD.

My current insurer is no nononsense which is underwrote by FBD. I might give them a call though but i had a few heated conversations with them a few months back, would prefer to go elsewhere but it looks like i wont be able to move because i have no NCB to fall back on.
