Hey thomas. You were on my Advert's thread asking about decks. As I'm sure many will echo here, DJ kit isn't cheap. If you buy cheap, you'll buy twice and get no resale value from it.

If your unsure of DJing, the cheapest and best route is get a laptop and a cheap controller (Like the Hercules RMX or similar. Check out Thomann.de or give the lads in Aquarius in Kildare a ring) Laptops will let you get a good hands on and try out DJing, with spending mega money.

I wouldn't spend any less than €400 on a set of starting decks. Below that they are just too simple and will lack features that very quickly you may need. Most good sets of decks will hold their value well enough to allow you to continue the hobby without pouring the money into them. You just can't buy cheap decks. You'll regret it in 6 months time when you decide you like it and have to fork out maybe €500, which you could have just spent in the first place.

€500 spent now, get €400 selling them in a year, only have to invest maybe €150 to upgrade. So your never really spending huge money. Its just a small investment. Worse comes to worst you can cash out and maybe recoup €400, so your loss is only €150 ish after a year.

My personal opinion is Numark are fairly rubbish. Its cheap gear and its cheap for a reason. Stay with the bigger brands and you'll normally have less hassle. The major players would be Denon and Pioneer, but you'll pay for it. They generally offer better service and much sturdier gear. You want something fairly robust that will last.

There are plenty of other brands and they all have their pro's and con's. My personal advice though is to stay clear of Gemini and Numark. Just had bad experiences with both. Same of course could be said for other brands.

+ 1 I had some numark stuff over the years, wouldn't touch it again. Poorish build quality and no resale value.
