Little Big Muff noise issue.

    Howdy.

I'm getting a lot of noise from my LBM. Even when it's switched off I'm getting a very loud hum. Total bummer.

Any idea what causes this? I bought it second hand t'other week and I don't think it was as bad as it is now. When it's engaged it's even worse, way too noisy even with the strings muted etc.

Could it be a power issue? I have 5 pedals daisy chained together and the LBM is number 3. When I disconnect it from the loop the noise is gone. When I have it in the loop but my guitar muted (via tuner mute) it's noisy.

No true bypass maybe? It could be a slightly older model...

Hope someone can help, I love the pedal but can't use it as is.

If you connect just the muff on its own direct to the power supply is it still there?

sounds like the power supply, it might need its own.

I find EHX pedals to be very sensitive to the type of power supply you are using.
Forget daisy chaining them. Your power supply also needs to have isolated outputs like the voodoo labs one or the t-rex one but both are pricy.

I use a Small Stone with a Diago power supply and it's alright...

May be just some EHX pedals so. I can say for certain that the Holy Grail & the Little Big Muff require isolated an power supply if you want to avoid background noise.

The small stone takes a 3.5mm power jack IIRC, this may be why it does not behave like the ones I've mentioned above. Now that I think of it, I used to have a small stone and never had any background noise off it at all using a daisy chain.

I've been strongly considering buying 8 rechargeable 9 volt batteries and some of these http://www.power-adapters.co.uk/images/9vclip_battery.jpg
instead of shelling out for the T-Rex fuel tank.

I can't believe I've never heard of that idea before! Brilliant! Sure those mega expensive power supplies are only trying to be as good as batteries anyway.

Thanks for your help dudes. I haven't had a chance to check it with it's own power source yet but that makes sense. I'll check later today...
