Converting Server to HTPC

    Hi all.

I currently have a PC in my home office running windows server. At the moment its a file, media and print server as well as a web server for testing and development. I stream video to a PS3 in the living room with PS3 Media server and to a 1st gen modded Xbox with XBMC upstairs. It works fine as it is but I want to move it into living room to free up the PS3 for upstairs (1st gen Xbox served me well but is limited to SD) and I want some of the latest XBMC or Boxee goodies for the living room.
    Specs are:
    2.5Ghz Dual core
    2GB RAM
    2TB + 1.5TB sata's
    500w PSU

I probably use Win 7 as a base and run a vm copy of the existing server OS. Ill need another 2GB RAM.

PSU is a bit overkill but its reasonably quiet. Ill be putting it in a cabinet so looks dont matter in the slightest and running HDMI to the TV.

Can you recommend a good passive pci-e card with audio over HDMI that will manage 1080P? There are a lot of them available for small money but I was looking recommendations from someone who has one.
As far as remotes go is there anything in particular I should be looking for or anything to avoid?
Is anyone running a similar setup? Id appreciate any suggestions or advice.
    Cheers

Not true, you can make a modification to the xbox1 and it will play up to 1080i, although it's best at 720p.

Don't give up on the old workhorse just yet.... Just my 2c....

You won't need much for video so a pretty cheep one should suffice. I can't comment on the ATI side, but on the nVidia side I'd recommend anything greater than the 9400, the 8 series before that, as far as I remember, didn't have integrated soundcards and instead took a feed from the motherboard. I use an integrated 9400 in an atom system and it has never given me a problem.

It unfortunately doesn't have the horsepower for h264 encoded video.
