Or does it just reek of grief?

considering the price, putting 1k of work into this would still consider it good value compared to others of model/year/engine.

lowered 40mm, dvd player etc might suggest he was driving it like he was late for mass however.

Would need to have it well looked over by a decent mechanic also.

    Thoughts?

Given that he thinks the fact is has fog lights are more relavent than tax/nct information, or most basic info about the car.... walk far far away. It's defo dodge and probably driven the bollix out of

"needs new sump" eh? I'd say it's been bounced over every speed bump in his area at a speed high enough to get airtime.

its the "needs new sump" bit that would worry me, years ago my bosses brother was driving his car and cracked the sump, then kept driving and completly fecked up the engine,

    edit: ^^^^what he said:)

If it needs a new Sump then it most likely needs a new Engine.

I bet when the oil ran out of the sump the engine ran dry of oil and its fúcked

what a load of ****. sump on a golf is low and made of **** so very vunerable to a lot of speed ramps especially if car is lowered. to say car is ****ed just cos an ad says need new sump is stupid.a lad working with me smashed 2 sumps on the same bump and is still driving his golf.(his car was kissing the ground)

So eh why would you lower it.

Would that not be a stupid thing to do ?

Sump on its own fair enough, but sump, hard to start and cutting out...

He didn't say he done the two sumps at the same time.

Is is a bit hastey to say the engine needs replacing. I had a vectra that had the sump bolt corroded into it and the only way around was a new sump, car and engine were perfect though.
I'm not sticking up for the car, I'd be VERY careful with that.

True a bit hasty to say an engine is damaged from a damaged sump, but that coupled with cutting out and difficult starting??

    150k
    hard to start
    cuts out
    needs a new sump
all the telltale signs of 'felt (lowered on 19"s, R32 kit on a t diddly i)

my bargepole and that car... well lets just say they'd never meet. sounds like you'd be buying a money pit.

realistically even if it didn't have that stalling out problem and didn't need a sump, a car thats done 150k miles and some at the hands of a 'felt spec'r, that car is probably at least two thirds of the way through its serviceable life.

Dont touch it with a barge pole.3,500??? Ridiculously cheap-for a reason Id say.

to be fair, a 1.9 TDI engine shouldn't be that expensive to pick up should it?
