ok here is the deal, im with perlico at the minute....my line supports up to 1mb....i get 0.2mb......i seen 3 offering 7.2mb with a 60gb limit for 29.99 and they said i could have a router for 30euro so i can connect multiple devices....they did a coverage check and said where i am they guarantee that i will never have less than 1mb speed and i should average 4-5mb.....i live in the back of nowhere in laois....is this a sales pitch by them or is there speed actually good?

    ideally i want

    1. over 1mb dl speed
    2. ability to connect my ps3 to it
    3. reliability
    4. hassle free customer service

    can they provide?

any input appreciated people :) thank you in advance

Stick with fixed line Perlico, 3's speeds are only up to xxMbps as thats the max speed of the cell you are connecting to so you're sharing that bandwith with all the other users in the cell. 3 might be faster some of the time than your current connection but it could be slower at peak times, its also unreliable for gaming (peak times unusable).
    4. hassle free customer service

    LMAO

Its only hassle free if you don't ask any awkward questions that aren't on the script.

thank you for the reply......hmmm i had expected they were telling porky pies.....

they told me i would have 48gb dl and 12gb upload limit.....i rang about 10 mins ago and told them to check my coverage and the guy said i had one of the best receptions he had seen lol.... i also asked bout video gaming and he swore blind that i could play ps3 and xbox at the same time online while downloading a movie, he said i was def gonna get 6mbspeed all the time.......now last time i heard stuff like that was from perlico who said you will get 3mb all the time....only for weeks later after i checked the speed and got 0.2mb they tell me my line can only get 1mb max.....

anyway at the min i get .2mb off peak and .1mb on peak with a 36gb dl and unlim ul.....if nobody else uses net in house i can play ps3 ok...ish.....but no go if any1 even logs onto google....

is there any chance whatsoever that 3 might be better? even if i had to buy a huge antenna to make it better...i would....perlico are just driving me mad with constant slow speeds.....

If it works and particularly of you need MOBILE Broadband it can be quite good but you do need to try it to know how well it will perform for you at home.

    I love that
the guy said i one of the best receptions he had seen
it must be on the script as I have no signal at all here and I've been told the same several times.

lol yep the script is fairly convincing.....when i said i would wait and get a lend of a friends dongle and then decide i was told that there was no need as and i quote! 'although the dongle will provide a good speed for you, it will not match the high power of the router we can provide'

he then went on to tell me that if i sign up by monday with him specifically (he gave name and direct number) that he would also give me a free i phone 4 or htc if i sign up for 25euro a month bill pay as well as mobile bb and he would give me 2 months free....

in short....they really want to make the sale....

i have been looking into it a lot on here and noticed that people are upset if they get a ping of higher than 100.....i get between 110 and 130 with perlico at the min...

is all mobile bb the same or is there any that can provide stabe gaming?

My ping with 3 is between about 150 and 350ms I do get the odd very good ping of 80 somtimes but also on Sunday had one of 1200ms.

If you are not far from a mast you have line of site to and there isn't much contention then you can game OK for a bit but you never know if a couple of other users are going to log on and start using youtube. Then whoever you sign up with might have some special offer for new users that swamp your area and then even browsing might be diffciult. Theres a thread at the top of the page.

if you cant avail of any fixed service its ok tbh, i get the lowest point 1MB the highest is 4MB but it averages at 2Mb reallly, works fine for xbox live, and is aok, rarely gets lag and usually a laptop online too...

if you download anything and try and do something else the network will strugle a bit it is mobile broadband and fluctuates a lot but i find it ok considering i cant get a fixed service, my 3 ping is usually under 100ms and prob averages bout 80ms, it gets 60 the odd time but its fine

and what they tell you id probably nonsence, if you can check the signal of different dongles and networks in your area to see whats best, there is 3g routers available that you can put a simcard in and use the wifi on the router...

it all totally depends on your location and whos on/using the network so if it works well for jim a mile down the road, it may work crap for you

i dont mean to steal the thread but does anyone know where i stand with 3 since i signed up in march for the pro broadband 30gb a month package, (not surewhat i pay a month, think it was 26.00 (im in credit with 3 still) but i see they have the 60gb for 29.99... id much rather have the extra

Thank you both :)...well im getting a 3 dongle today on loan and i'll run tests every half hour to check speed and ping.....as from what i no there is about 10 houses within 3km of me squared....give or take...a few of them seem to have satellite bb and from taking my laptop in car with me and searching i found the rest to have eircom so maybe there wont be too much congestion from people...also there is a mast close but i dont have a clear view....i guess i'll just have to wait to get the dongle and find out....my big worry is that i see a lot of people on here saying they got mobile bb and its amazing for the first 2 weeks and then it is terrible after....

as for the 30gb to 60gb.....my friend signed up for the 30gb last week when i told him i was gonna get 60 for same price he rang them and they said if he wanted that he would have to take a new contract....he didnt mind since he is only a week into his existing one.....so depending on whether you want a new contract or not seems the only way to upgrade....

and the service/speed didnt change, its been about the same since i got it

Oh Dear, not only are they telling lies in Mumbai the 3 Shops are also telling lies

There is NO 14 day grace period. The shop afaik can't cancel anything as your contract is with 3 so your stuck with 3's T&C's which you'll have signed and they allow you to get out of contract only after going through CS and Support and getting them to confirm there is no service in your area.

ffs is there entire network built on lie to get new customers? there goal must be to aquire people and then screw them over......thanks for lettin me no cause i was rootin out my stuff to sign up....got an ok signal from the dongle....1.7mb at its lowest 6.5 at highest with ping ranging from 90 to 140.....but have noticed the speed changes minute by minute...i hooked it up via ps3 and tried a game of cod....for the most part it was acceptable....but try knife someone and it aint happenin by the time the knife was swung the opponant had turned me and knifed me in the back....happened a few times....connection hasnt dropped at all so far tho....i'll wait and see how it changes after 6pm cause i reckon thats wen most ppl will be using so ill see how it goes...

All you need now is a commision based 3 door to door salesman to call then you'll hear some really good ones :D

If you check out the 3 SmallPrint.pdf (all the other promo and T&C docs for 3 are here) you'll see on page 13...
Your 14-Day Money Back Guarantee –
    Pay Monthly and 3Pay customers

If you are eligible to avail of the14 day
money back guarantee (“the policy”), you
may only terminate the agreement by
returning your device and original boxed
accessories, along with your proof of
purchase, within 1a4 days of receipt of
your device (“the 14 day period”).

    Eligibility

This policy only applies to customers who
    have experienced verifiable network
coverage issues as confirmed by H3G.
    For more information, please see
    three.ie/coverage.

I still wouldn't rule them out completly but its the 12 or 18 month contract that would/does put me off. I get by with them 3Pay and for eBay which is my main time online its fine. If I were you I'd try them on 3Pay for a longer period and if thats satisfactory then it might be worth signing up because you get a much larger download allowance.

lol i could see them doing that in the future...

they dont give up i can tell you that...i dont recall giving my number to them but a sales rep called to offer me 18 months for the price of 15 with a free router and dongle if i join by the 28th....they must really want new people....

what they say seems too good to be true every time and especially now i have red the t&c...i think if i took that offer someone with a scythe would appear at my door expecting me to sign away my soul so i dont break contract if anything goes wrong...im gunna do 2 months of payg to see if signal and latency holds up.....
i tried streamin a vid on it and it was great....den tried dl a video clip and the thing shut down to dial up speed....fekrs

Don't forget with all ISP's there's a 20-25% overhead on your downloads so downloading a 800MB video file will use at least a Gig of your data allowance + don't forget the uploading factor with file sharing ;)

wow...now that is something i did not no....is that just with mobile bb or all across the board? why is internet in ireland so awkward....went to england last year and stayed in a premier inn hotel....great speeds...great ping....steady...no lags....never lost connection.....dl'd a 6.3gb game in 1 hour....if i tried that here it wud take about 3 days....

Thats TCP for you, you have to send acknowedgments to say that your packets of data have arrived so its a two way process.

Just have to laugh. their router will make no difference, all it does is allow other devices in your household to use the same connection. After 5pm the midband is saturated, and .2mb will seem super fast compared to what you won't get with 3, or most of the other midband providers.

As stated previously, their customer service is great as long as you're not calling about poor (read no) download/upload speeds.

If you're gaming you'll need a decent broadband (3 and the others mobile operators supply midband)

Stick with what you've got and get Perlico to check what's up.
