Our build on an RTE series!

We are debating having our extension and remodel featured on an RTE programme.

Has anyone out there done it before, were you able to use it to negotiate discounts from your architect, builder, suppliers, in return for favourable mentions?

Was it worth the hassle of having a film crew intruding on your build?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Britie

I've only heard one story from a couple in Wicklow who had to hold certain stages of their build, as the cameras couldnt make it on certain days, and as a result, their build went on much longer than should have. This was during the time of the Tiger:D, and basically the trades in question had no intention of loosing out on other jobs €€€ for 10 seconds of airtime.

I would find it hard to imagine that any self respecting good tradesman/professional/merchant would cut serious cost for the hassle associated with it. They are probably cutting their fees to the bone as it stands just to get the work;)

i always assumed that rte paid a fee, why else would you do it?

As I understand it, any systems, products or logos (on hard hats or vests etc.) pay a fee to the programme makers for 'placement'. I'd guess that any bargains are unlikely if this is case.

Well if it's anything like RTE's Roomers the location director will go out of his way to make a tit out of the client for the titles and inserts. "Fold your arms and look down the camera" seems to be a favourite.

I can't see RTE giving you any money and if the builders only get a quick mention for free and have to pay to have their name/logo shown, you're not going to get anything from them either.
