Jaw Surgery :(

    Hi All,

I chipped my front tooth recently and could not get an appt with my own dentist so i chanced this other dentist... He is very perfessional and seems alot better than my previous dentist so i think i will stay with him...

My only concern is he told me that my jaw is in an awful condition... My jaw bone is making my teeth come up at an angle and pushing all my teeth forward.. According to him the average person can get 3-4 fingers in there mouth, me unfortunatley can only get 1 and 1/2... (ya ya ya let the laughing begin.. all my family take the just laugh at me) I cant eat an apple , bananna or something simple as a lolli pop because i cant open my mouth wide enough..

I fell on my jaw when i was small and taught i done no damage but i obviously did... Previously i have been able to 'pop' my jaw out of place and put it back in again.. now i cant do any of that...

I NEVER had braces, just the odd filling and thats..

Has anyone gone through this surgery?? Do i have to wear braces!! I know i need the surgery but the taught of braces is making me change my mind??

He also recommended elastics but didnt go into detail about them??

    Help anyone?? Suggestions???:o

    Hiya

There was only a thread here recently about jaw surgery actually. But yeah, I had my jaw "done" last October and Im 100% recovered since about Jan/Feb. I did mine for cosmetic reasons whereas you actually seem to have a functional reason to do it. I think braces are pretty much the norm before such a surgery and then after the surgery elastics are fitted onto the braces to train the jaw to its new position.
