    Hi,

I've been to Thailand twice before, once with a mate where we stayed on Koh Pangang and done the FMP, up till midday next day, buckets etc. and also once with an ex, went to koh samui and got speedboat over to FMP, stayed till 4am got drunk and got speedboat back to 3* hotel on Chaweng beach in koh samui. Great craic.

Now I am moving to Aus in July and decided to stay in Thailand for a week on the way, and I really can't decide where to stay.. Thinking of 2 nights in BKK, then flying to Koh Samui and either staying on Chaweng for 6 nights or going to Koh Pangang for 6 nights... thing is, I'm not too arsed with FMP now as I'm 31 and done it before and rather keep the good memories..

So what I'm asking is, does anyone have experience of going to Koh Samui by themselves? I don't want to stay in a hut as I'm over that, so I want to stay in a €60 a night hotel, does anyone have any recommendations?

Also, what would Koh Samui nightlife be like whilst everyone is over at the FMP? (I sill want to party, just not with mega-young groups of UK/Ire/Aussies.. )

    Cheers

Last time I was in Samui I stayed in the rooms behind the Ark bar. I found it very easy to meet people down in the bar when the missus wasn't down there with me. I also went over to the FMP (my second time aswell) on me own as she didnt fancy the speed boat over. She was down in the bar for dinner later that evening and said the place was busy enough. Not sure about the clubs up town though. That said it Christmas time so the day after the party was Christmas day so people may have skipped knowing the NYE FMP was on the following week...

I loved Ko Samui mainly because it's quite big and there are several small towns/villages so a lot of places to hang around.
My hotel was "Choengmon Beach Hotel and Spa" and it was very nice, clean, very next to the beach, swimming pool, etc. The one thing is that "Choengmon Beach" is not much a party area, it's very relaxing spot.
When looking for a hotel in Thailand I always used www.asiarooms.com and never had a problem.
If you want to party on Ko Samui you may want to stay at Chaweng Beach, you have McDonald, Starbucks and a lot lot of places with music.

I only stayed in Samui one night after a week diving in Ko Tao and 2 weeks in KO Phanagn. I stayed in an area called Bo Phut and just as described has can of a mediterranean feel to it. Quite nice atmosphere and located real close to airport and ferry to northern islands.
Not a party spot but nice for a stroll/day out.
Can't recommend any places but for €60 a night, in Thailand wow you should be able to stay in the Palace for that :p!
