We are looking for a DJ for after our band (about a two hour set) but we cant afford an arm and a leg for it. We have been getting qoutes of 350-400 for this service which is above our budget. Looking for someone to play for 200-250 if this is possible!?. We are getting married in Leitrim this July so I guess anyone local or surrounding counties might not be as expensive. The music we like to dance to includes the cure, stone roses, michael jackson, stevie wonder, beatles, lcd soundsystem, hot chip, etc etc .... no joe dolan please!!!
    Anybody got a recommendation?
    :D

That seems very expensive! Definitely see if can you do better than that.

Our band provide a DJ and they're charging us e200 for the DJ for 2 hours (the band is a lot more than that though!). I don't have a name of anything yet but if I get it soon I'll post it! Are you having a band at all or only a DJ? How long do you want the DJ to play for?

I have the same query. Looking for a dj to do an hour and a half set after our band at our wedding in Westport in June. We've been quoted €250 for this, but really, I think €150 is as much as we will be able to pay, especially given it's an hour and a half set. I think €100 per hour is good offer!

If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it

    Thanks

Yes we have a band playing. They are really good but not cheap. They say they can get us a DJ but at 350e. We want the DJ to play for 2 hours and like the other poster said 100 bucks an hour is a good deal.

Come on there has to be someone out there in the Leitrim or surrounding area who has all the gear and plays good tunes (see OP) and would like to make some good money without fleecing the B&G ???? :D

If the band provide work to the DJ on a regular basis (or if one of the band is the DJ) then they should be able to do it for €250 at most. No recommendations for Leitrim though, sorry.

One thing I will say though is that two of the most important things your guests will remember from your big day is the food and the entertainment. For the sake of saving €100 on an unexperienced DJ or a Band Member acting as DJ (If they were a DJ, they would be out DJ'ing), you might regret it.

    Just something to think about...

That usually ends up being one of the band members on a nixer. Could be good or could be bad, you could be lucky.

Done DJ for a mate, he was fiscally challenged, I was broke, so it was mates rates.

Anyway, we compiled the play list as per his likes, leading to the everybody on the dancefloor finale, put it on the Ipod playlist, linked it to the mixer, let it play for 2 hours, great night.

Cost of hiring the rig incl mixer, amp, speakers and lights €140.00

With a bit of planning it can be done.

Thanks for all the replies. We have a DJ booked now, thanks to this forum, for a much more reasonable price.

Thats a decent price to rent a rig - Goes to show that paying 300/350 for a proven dj with backup equipment and experience of doing weddings who may have to spend 4 hrs on the road, 2 hrs setting up/breaking down and maybe waiting around for another 2 hours (they would need to be setup before the band) isnt out of this world!
