"This item can only be delivered to a UK address." Bah. Then why offer it in Euro?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

Someone suggested this a few months back and had success.

Register a new delivery address with them, and put United Kingdom in the Country field. But in the normal address fields, include Ireland at the end.
Also use Sterling as your currency. It's only £7.99.

The user in question had done it with electronic stuff previously, and they'd all been delivered.

To be fair, it's only to get past Play's delivery system. Once it's posted, it'll get to you.

do it guys. Ye know ye want to!

How do you get around the postcode?

I have my normal address on it, except I have "United Kingdom" selected for the country.

In the postcode box I have put "IRELAND".

Has not failed yet, and I have not ordered anything in Euro since I started doing this over a year ago.

Oops, sorry, should have mentioned that there is no need to set up a new account.
All you need to do is select "Add new address" in the "My account" area.
Then just select this address when placing your order.

I ordered the router and used Ireland as the postcode and UK as the country. The order was accepted and I though "game on", then I got this e-mail.

Thank you for your recent order with Play.com.

At Play.com, we value your custom and take your online security very
seriously. Accordingly we have an additional security check in place.

To perform this check we ask that you contact our Customer Service Team on
    0845 800 1020 ( UK only ) or +44 (0)1534 877 595 ( outside UK ). Our
opening hours are 9am - 8pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 5pm Saturday and
Sunday. Please have the card registered on the account to hand so that we
can process your order as quickly as possible.

Please note that PlayTrade orders are only held for 24 hours. After this
time your order will be automatically cancelled and it will be necessary
    to place the order again.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you
and thank you for your patience and valued custom.

    Kind Regards,

    Play

I have already given security clearance through my bank so I can only assume they've copped that the card is issued outside the UK.

I got no such e-mail. Ordered it yesterday using the same post code and country. My credit card has been charged and my status says "Packing". Will probably be dispatched on monday.

I had a look on Play and it says, "your account has been declined". I can only assume this has to do with not being a UK account as I have ordered from Play before, in Euro. Were you asked to validate your card during the ordering process?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,345 ✭✭✭jamescd

Nope. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I use a pre-paid mastercard issued by a UK company. I just hope it turns up at my door someday next week as they've already taken money out of my account.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 600 ✭✭✭PurplePrincess

I think you need to leave your credit card billing address with Ireland as the country and then set up a delivery address with United Kingdom as the country.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,977 ✭✭✭johnny_adidas

Can this be used as an extender?

yes, should be an option in the settings to use as an Access point

Just checked my mail and received the following from Play.com
Thank you for your recent order with Play.com

At this time we are unable to process your order as your credit/debit card

not match the address they have on record.

To proceed with your order please check and amend the following:

Cardholder name. Please check and amend your details with your name
exactly as it appears on your credit/debit card statement.

Cardholder address. This should be the address where your credit card
bills or bank statements are sent.

Your house number (or name) and postcode should be exactly the same as
they appear on your credit card bills or bank statement.

If you do not find a discrepancy please contact our Customer Service Team

Couldn't agree more it'll cause more trouble than it's worth. Even if it was free.

I ordered one and just set up a new mailing address with the country left on UK. Received an email this morning to say it has been shipped. I have an Ulster Bank Visa if that made any difference.

As for the quality of Belkin routers, I have been using my current one flawlessly for years. It was a doodle to set up, it is full-featured and more importantly works. What more does anyone want?

Many thanks to the OP. Electronics purchases are now possible from Play in sterling prices!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,859 ✭✭✭bmaxi

I don't know what Play are playing (groan) at but after telling me my account was declined I got a mail to say my order is dispatched.
All I can say is, no matter how bad it is it won't be any worse than the Netopia rubbish supplied by Eircom, hardly a week goes by that I don't have to reset it but we'll see.

Lol I have the Zyxel one and I have to reset it every day :pac: Seriously, it's just absolutely useless.

Mine's been dispatched as well :)

Mine despatched today also. Thanks OP.

This fits the bill for me as I just want a spare modem in case my regular one stops working as happened recently.

I tried but I got this

Why do I need to review the delivery address?
Items priced in pounds can only be delivered to UK addresses.
Items priced in euros can only be delivered to European addresses outside the UK.
Electronic items, gadgets and toys can only be delivered to UK addresses.
Mobile content can only be purchased if you have a UK credit/debit card billing address.
    Choose a different delivery address.

    +1 - great value if you're a masochist who loves fault-finding.

I got one of these several years ago. I got it replaced (after many hours on tech support lines) FOC under the lifetime warranty - it was a known & common fault whose details I can't quite remember now. Had continuing intermittent problems until I ditched it for a Netgear late last year. Last time I checked, they'd had a "temporary" firmware patch in place for about a year, addressing a problem that was all but stopping me from using the internet. Never made it past Beta in the time I was using the modem. I'd look elsewhere.

this is a routine message afaik. I ordered a laptop a few months ago through an online website in Uk and got this message, when i was paying through paypal. Similar to the mail i got from them, and they asked that i call their customer care, it was a check to ask about my credit card, as it was not a UK card, asked my address, issuing bank, card number, and they put order through, and arrived a few days later

Buggered if I can configure this, networking is not a strong point.
Anyway I can't access the router page and when I try it with the CD and give all the relevant information, it tells me my ISP says info is wrong. I can actually see the router and use the internet wirelessly on my phone but I can't connect to my PC, I can see the ip address 192.168.1.2 but I get "page not available" when I try to access, I've disabled firewall to no avail. I'm thinking it's something stupid that I'm not seeing.

The clue is in my post, I used the IP address 192.168.1.2 when it should have been 192.168.2.1.
All the info given above is spot on.

Thanks to the OP, mine arrived this morning. How could you go wrong for €12 odd yoyo's. The box it came in and the postage & handling alone must have cost them half that.
