Samsung SF311

eriously considering the Samsung SF311 as a new laptop for college specs are here and here,

Looks like a stylish portable laptop with fairly good specs at a reasonable price Amazon link, what interests me most is the claimed 9 hour battery life which I know will never be achieved in real life situations but 5/6/7 hours of light use would be more than sufficient for my needs-which include a weekly 4 hour bus journey to and from college

The lack of any tangible reviews is a concern, I wouldn't like to part which that amount of money before hearing the opinion of someone who had used one!

So what does everyone think? hopefully someone on here may own one or if you have any general comments to make about the laptop/other suggestions fire away!

I've got a Samsung Q330, which isnt a million miles away from this one. I can tell you that the battery life is meant to be, like 7 hours on mine but in reality, it is nothing like that. About 3.5 hours tops, which is still good for a full power laptop, but a good way short of the claimed life, be aware of that.

Other than that though, i can only but praise mine, great keyboard(looks to be the same one on your one) and built well, doesn't creak like my old laptop

The Samsung SF311 is a great computer. I have owned it a few days, and is very satisfied. The keyboard are great, the mousepad too, and its looking very good.

A another great thing about it, is the heat and noise. It is really silent, i havent yet heard the fan (!) and its almost cool. Great to have in your lap, in other words.

The batterytime are great. I dont yet know exacly how loong the batterytime is, but it is maybe 7-8 hours. I am charging the computer when i am at school, and using it all the evening without recharging it.

Thanks for the info man! have you tried playing any games on it? I know the graphics cards isn't the strongest but what kind of games can it handle?

How do you find the screen and its brightness?

More specific info on the battery life would be appreciated too!

Just tried one game, a old BMW-game, which worked well. The grafic has 512 mb, so i think it should work ok, but its no gaming computer..

The screen is good, with a good brightness. I am using the computer with the brightness turned down a bit, at it`s highest level it is very bright.

Hard to tell about the battery-time, haven`t tested it yet. But i have used the computer in 6 hours without charging, and it was some hours remaining according to the computer. In other words, i am satisfied with the battery.

Yeah, it has a optical drive. It feels very "cheap", but works well!

So what's the verdict after you've had more time to use it? would you still recommend it?

Yep, still satisfied.

Very impressed by the performance, it is much better than i expected from a 13.3 netbook.

The touchpad, however, isn`t the best, and to games and stuff i have to use a external mouse.

Still, i would rdcommend the computer to you all, it is great.

How do you find the battery life? does it reach 7/8+ normal use?
What games have you tried on it?
And have you attempted to play around with the trackpad to improve it's use?

Yeah, the battery do last 7-8 hours at normal use, with the brightness turned a bit down.

I have mostly played fotball manager 11, at highest peformance with 3d, and it worked perfectly. Also played Stronghold Legends, which worked perfect as well.

The trackpas is good, no doubt, but it is a tiny bit different from the trackpad on my old computer. However, when playing games, i am most comfortable using a portable mouse at every computer.
