iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4

I could soon be upgrading from iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4. Hence I want to make sure that all contact details, text msgs, pictures, emails (including email settings), apps etc will move safely across from the 3GS to iPhone 4.

Is it simply a case of backing up the iPhone 3GS on iTunes, and then restoring the data to the iPhone 4? Or is it a bit more complicated than that?

    cheers folks

Not sure if it has been delayed this year, but you might want to hold off till the iPhone 5 which should be announced at the end of next month.

To answer your question, yes, you simple back up your 3gs and the restore with iPhone 4 and everything will be the same.

I think its not expected until September.
I cracked the screen on my 3GS this week and am not going to bother fixing it as I was planing to upgrade to the 5 anyway (depending on specs, price, etc.).
I'm not going to upgrade to the 4 now with the 5 so close, horses for courses though :)

As far as I know Vodafone are offering me a free upgrade to the iPhone 4 by trading in my 3GS, if I do so before the end of May.

If I instead turn down this offer and wait till September, I take it I would have to shell out a sizeable few quid (min €150 i would predict) in order to upgrade to the iPhone 5?

Is there enough improvements on the iPhone 5 vs iPhone 4 to justify me presumably having to pay a min of €150 for the iPhone 5, as opposed to getting a free iPhone 4 now?

hoard to say as the specs havent been released yet.
There are rumors or an upgraded 8mp camers, change in the camera flash also.
Haven't seen any other details yet.
Not saying you should wait or anything, just wanted to let you know so you could make an informed decision.
As for your original question, as klj pointed out, you will be fine to restore your backup on your new phone, I did it with my 2g and my 3gs.

Make sure to back up and sync!! In the bottom right corner of iTunes that's the important piece then connect your new phone and it will be like your old one contacts emails etc etc
