I hope this doesn't seem too much of a stupid question, but does anyone know why there are so many army personnel outside Cathal Brugha barracks the last two days?
going to school near there I'm used to seeing soldiers going to and from the shop for lunch, but never armed, and in pairs along the road! :)
So, does anybody have any ideas? Is it in anyway related to the queen being here?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ronan

Raised state of alert most likely. 'show of force' probably armed with sharp wits instead of live rounds. I doubt they'd allow squaddies to wander around with live rounds to tescos. Ireland isn't israel :P

Because we all play soldiers and some members here are serving PDF or RDF and they'd probably know?

    Just spitballing mind you...

...It's a military base and the heads of state of two countries we're somewhat aligned with but have radical nemesese who operate in primarily clandestine and guerilla roles using explosives rather than conventional arms are visiting our country and are, therefore, under our duty of care and protection?

I'm just throwing that out there as a possibility. What do I know though? Maybe they're all waiting for the ice cream man?

Just to add to that Dex I was in contact earlier with HB and the word is they were in fact waiting on an ice cream van

Ice Cream Van being the Irish code word for Marine One.

I think it was code for a 99 with strawberry sauce and sprinkles actually...

Flake is the code word for David Camon during his visit though :P

Just a note, but anyone privy to any sensitive information.

Don't bloody post it on the internet.

Its not big, its not clever, but the rubber gloves that will come after are big.

Unless someone has been watching too many bad cop/spy shows, I think it'd be reasonably safe to say the presidents helicopter isn't called "Ice Cream Van".
