Htc Desire S Internet Problem

I just got a HTC desire S off meteor on bill pay and I have 1gb of data. I have connected to my home internet connection but even tho it says connected nothing is loading (internet,youtube etc). What settings do I have to put on to get it going, im new to the smart phones so dont know how to set it up. How come if I cant connect to my home network it is not connecting to the net threw meteor?

It should work out of the box...

settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > access point names

and make sure the 'Meteor Internet' APN is selected.

thanks, yea that is selected but it still wont connect. if i click the wireless hotspot thing it works but what is that doing?

Wireless hotspot creates a Wifi share based on your 3G connection, are you sure that's working?

That will allow your laptop (or whatever) use the 3G connection made by your phone, your Meteor data.

ah right, yea its coming on now and again but it wont stay on but I cant seem to get the meteor internet going at all

Do you get a H, 3G or E icon on the top of the main screen, with the up down arrows flashing?
