I have a Sky Dish and am thinking of installing a Outdoor TV Aerial so I can pick up BBC etc. as I recently started to rent a room out in my house and the girl wants to put in a TV - does anyone know how much this might cost? Sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread.

You mean BBCs etc though the dish and the Irish Digital Terrestrial channels through the Aerial?

You can pick up a combo box these days for 150 - 200 bucks depending on the model. This will allow you to get both the Free UK Satellite channels and the Free Digital Irish Channels in one combo box.

You'll need a dish, which you have and an aerial, type of aerial will depend on where you live but a wideband black tipped UFH aerial will probably do you unless you live in a poor coverage area. If you know from what transmitter you are going to pick up the Irish channels, then you can get a grouped aerial, colour coded to freq ranges. ie reg, green, yellow etc.

many combo boxes on the market these days, including edision argus mini combo, ferguson ariva 200, smart cx61 combo, triax 537 etc

The 537 is the only one with Mheg5. The 537 suffered from awful problems initially with with various software releases, I belive it to be sorted now.

There are many threads on the pros and cons of each, so have a read around a see what suits you best.

I don't think there's much point trying to get terrestrial UK channels in Swinford (is that right?). A Freesat box can be easily connected to your Sky dish although you may need a different LNB.

The Irish Saorview or analogue channels shouldn't be a problem with an aerial. Your lodger may already have a Saorview compatible tv.

Costs are another matter & will vary depending on the specifics of the job.
Best to get someone local to have a look (or are you considering DIY?).

The aerial will really of use for Irish channels (you may have BBC etc through an aerial in Swinford but this is probably via a deflector and will disappear next year)

A dual or quad LNB on the existing satellite dish will enable additional boxes (not necessairly Sky -Freesat will do) to get BBC etc.
