You are entitled to €0.00 (JSB)

I was claiming Job Seekers Benefit from June '09 - June '10.

From March '10 - September '10 I was working for a company on the Fás Work Placement Program (that's right, they took away my JSB while on the program)

From 7th Dec '10 - 30th April '11 I was in paid employment for a company. Unfortunately, due to lack of work, I was let go.

So, I decided to re-apply for JSB since I was under the impression that because I had at least 13 weeks of prsi contributions that I would be entitled to it.

That brings me to today, I get a letter telling me where/when I can collect my first payment and when the next time I have to sign on is. The letter also says that I am entitled to exactly €0.00c!

What I didn't get in the letter however is a reason for this. The only thing I can think of is that I'm under 25 (24). But surely I have enough contributions to make that reason obsolete. If anyone can shed light on this it would be incredibly helpful as I don't want to have to spend a day going down to the social welfare office (since they're allergic to answering phones/emails)

The rules have changed in relation to how many contributions and when in relation to qualifying for JB. Have a read http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/jb_jobseekben.aspx

    Apply for JA.

Sounds like a typo or error. Some of the Local Offices have gone onto a new computer system when processing JSA and JSB. It has been known to generate some ambiguous letters. Why send an award letter fo €0.00 when they should have sent a disallow letter.

Give the Office a ring just to check.

Your claim for JSB would be based on your 2009 contributions. Sounds like you have about 26 JSB credits for that year, but you need 39 total cons. Did you work before you signed for JSB in 09?

Why did they take away your JSB while you were on the WPP???
They have well advertised that you can keep JSB while on it.

Did you question or challenge it at the time????

    Hi Leggit,

Maybe you should give the Irish National Organisation of the Unemployed a call on 018560088. They have Welfare Information Officers and should be able to give you information on what you actually may be entitled to as it sounds like their is some confusion in regards to your payment.

Looks like the OP's Benefit would have exhausted while on the WPP. You only keep your existing payment, the scheme does not extend your entitlement.

Or alternatively were you signing for credits? If you were signing for credits (or working) for 13 weeks in 2009 on top of your JSB credits, you should still qualify for JB.

I was working all of 2009 up to my claim in June. I'm on my way to their offices now anyway to see what the story is so I'll post my story later!

Well, turns out that is was a mistake on their part and that I am entitled to JSB. I was really getting worried there for a while!

    Problem solved!
