    Hi,

I'm looking to buy a 2nd hand MB, it's an early 2009 model with 2GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. On mac2sell it is saying a price of €350. Just wondering is that a realistic price as person selling is looking for more.

    Thanks

350-400 sounds right. Depends what condition it is in. Those models had problems with cracked cases, yellowing, etc. How much do they want?

Looking for €550, it's running snow leopard, it's a black version and apart from a bit of wear on the trackpad it looks in great condition from the photos. And it's stated that there is no marks on screen or case. What do ya think?

Black Macbooks always cost more. And Apple don't make them anymore so they are kinda rare now which why sellers can get away with asking for such high prices for them. They were never worth the extra, not then, and certainly not now.

Also, there was no early 2009 black Macbook. The last black model that Apple made was early 2008 and it wasn't 2.0GHz, so it's older than you think. With those specs it could be a late 2006 Macbook which would make it about 5 years old, in which case there's no way it is worth €550.

My advice, stay away from the black models altogether, they are overpriced, and make sure the seller is clear about the age of the machine. The younger the better.

mac2sell is pretty much on the ball. However it doesn't factor in Applecare which can raise the price if it is still under that.

550 is crazy money! the seller is delusional. i got a new late 2010 2.26GHz 2GB macbook for (i think, it's been a while) £670 (including student discount)

About what? The age of the machine? I'd have to see the full specs. Does it definitely say it's a 2009 model?

The thing is the specs on those old Plasticbooks didn't vary very much over the years. There wasn't a whole of difference between the Macbooks Apple were selling in 2006 to the ones they were selling in 2008. But there was definitely no 2009 black Macbook. The aluminium unibody Macbook was introduced in late 2008 and those old black models were discontinued.

How old is it? 2008? I'm not sure. It's better value than the other one, but it depends on what condition it is in. As said above, there was a problem with cracked cases on all those Macbooks. I wouldn't be paying that price if it's all beat up. With Macs you kinda need to go on the age of the machine and what condition it is in as much as the specs.

Yeah definitely said it was a 2009 model, he sent me this link to check the specs http://support.apple.com/kb/sp504

I definitely think it was someone pulling a fast one. At this stage I'm thinking of just waiting and buying direct from Apple (new or refurb). Thanks for all the help lads.

The last black MacBook was released in 2006/2007. 2.0GHz, 2GB RAM. Hard drive was 120GB, upgradeable to 160GB or 200GB - a friend bought one and those were the specs at the time.
