    hey folks,

i sold my car to a garage aout 3 weeks ago for cash, (very little amount) as there was LOADs wrong with my car and i was getting a new one. anyway i went onto there website and "somehow" my old car now has a 2 year NCT and the mileage has been reduced by 33,000.....im really considering reporting this as i dont want someone to go in and think there getting a deal buying my old car when really there hard earned money is going on a car that i know for a fact is not road worthy and is only fit for a skip.

what wud be the best thing for me to do?

wud the garage know it was me that reported it?

has anyone reported anything like this before?

Confirm it's not an error on the ad first.

What was wrong with it to say it would not pass an NCT? What type of car is it?

    Do not post a link.

Do you know that the problems with the car haven't been rectified?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,903 ✭✭✭cadaliac

^^as above, but in the case that you can verify that the faults were rectified, fair enough. it is the garage's right to sell on the car for a profit, seeing as they can make good on the labor costs.
However, if you can verify that the mileage has been tampered with, I would report it straight away.
It doesn't matter who reports it - why do you care if the garage finds out? - but it should most definitely be reported. For sure.

Nothing too difficult to sort there for a garage, and the mileage mistake could easily be the monkey at the keyboard uploading it to Carzone clicking miles instead of kilometres, or vice versa.

sounds like you took real good care of your car :p ring the garage OP pretending you want to buy it. no point having the possibilty of ruining a genuine dealers name for no reason, the ratio of good:bad is poor enough as it is i would think

Very few garages are silly enough to sh1t on their own doorstep in manner you describe. Typically a car that was going to be clocked would be swapped around dealers abit so nobody can be held directly responsible.
I dont see the issue with NCT. Even if not economical for you to repair to NCT standard, it may still cost a dealer v little to do the same.
You would need to confirm mileage on the car itself before you go any further tbh.

i just cudnt stand the car anymore to be honest :P

ill try dig up something that wud have the mileage on it about the car, i just wud hate to see someone get the car and god forbid something was to happen to them whilst driving it (PS: the guys that ran the garage were complete gangsters) ill keep u guys up to date on it, thanks for the replies

how do you know they were gangsters? i went to buy a car from a SIMI dealer who've been there for 30 years and upon driving it, informed them there was something up with the front shock, the dealer said they would change it before i got a fiat dealer to check it out, he didnt. the suspension and timing belt were knackered and even though he was supposed to ring me back once fiat has informed him what was wrong, he didnt. instead he increased the price by €150 euro and sold it to some poor sod who obviously didnt get it checked out

Considering they most likely had your car for zero cost, it would be economical for them to repair.
They will be sourcing stuff for small cost from breakers. You might consider a set of tyres to cost 3 to 400 euro. They will likely have got used ones just above legal limit for a few quid for selling the car on or stuck some good ones on for the test.
Same with everything else on the list. Granted the repairs would amount to a few hundred euro in used parts for the garage but they would then have it all sorted ready for test in a day or so, so worth while for them.

To be honest it sounds like it wasn't properly maintained by the last owner who had it. Head gasket is the only big thing there and probably only gone if it was driven without coolant. Most of the others could be quite easily sorted for little or no money.

On the mileage they probably done the km/mileage trick. Enter in the mileage in miles as KMs on car-zone, so it appears like its got much less on it. Then if anyone queries it, its just a simple error ;)

For the record shogunpower, the posts were deleted as they were off topic. My reply to you was deleted as it quoted you and while I cleaned up the thread all other references were deleted.

You also know that if you have a problem you can PM me like you have done in the past over your previous bans. But this time it's not for a week. Goodbye.

    Now back on topic.

I meant for someone that had a garage and a mechanic on staff who is being paid anyway. Most of the things on the list would be very simple to rectify:-

washer jets blocked <- Very Easy to fix this

handbrake cable about to snap <- Probably needs adjusting + check shoes

rear lights not fully functional <- Probably harness going to boot lid broken

seat belts worn <- get second hand

electrics needed replacing <- No idea what this means

drivers elec window motor burnt out <- might be the motor or an encoder issue, still quite easy to fix.

warped brake discs <- 2 new front discs should sort this
rusted and worn brake pads and callipers <- new pads when changing discs

cracked head unit <- Tape head units can be picked up for next to nothing.

4 bald tyres <- probably throw on second hand ones

Don't forget the headgasket, or the AC which is seldom cheap or easy, odds are it's not just low on refrigerant. You are assuming everything is an easy fix, which is seldom the case with BMW's.

We are talking about a cheap car here. Head gasket needs to be fixed, fair enough. Stuff like aircon, Ive seen the actual (climate) head unit playing up in e46. They would most likely swap in a used one if it was being dodgy. Cant see them spending any cash on the aircon system itself though or being bothered whether its actually cooling or not.
