    Hi,
I have a PhD interview for a PhD in immunology next week, the interview is in my current department.
I have heard some mixed views about formal attire for science PhD interviews as you shouldn't confuse yourself with a business graduate.
Would a simple black dress, cream blouse and black blazer be too formal.
The interview requires a presentation as well so it is quite formal and I want to impress from the offset.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.
    Sarah

The outfit you're describing sounds perfect - it's an interview at the end of the day and wanting to make a good impression shows that you're conscientious :)

Just make sure you're comfortable and there's nothing in the outfit that catches or you constantly need to readjust and you can move around in it ok if you need to when you're giving the presentation. Best of luck!

I'm puzzled at all the questions recently asked about what to wear for interviews - basic rule is dress as if you are already employed at 1 level above the job you're going for.
Another basic rule is that if you err let it be on the side of being overdressed.

Can't understand why people agonize about what to wear....:confused:

I've been to interviews for office jobs where people wore jeans and hoodies. Needless to say, after the interview I never saw them again.

I think there's an element of people being afraid to look silly by dressing too fancy and other interviewees laughing at them.

I was at an assessment centre where one girl wore ripped jeans and those hideous ' ugg ' boots , in fairness to her she did not appear in the least perturbed by everyone else in suits .
